Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The results are very interesting and show good chemistry, the paper is compressively well organized. There are some points which must be edited or clarified by providing additional information or a comment. This manuscript is recommended to be published only after including and addressing the below listed comments:

1. The authors should write the complete terms of all abbreviations (PTFE) before the first use in the abstract and main manuscript.

2. Key words section should be extended and only complete terms should be used.

3 What about statistical analysis (especially fig 3 and 7)

Our decision on this manuscript – Minor revision.

Reviewer 2 Report

In this paper, the authors developed a new method for synthesis of Ni-P-PTFE based on a two-step approach, which allows to achieve high PTFE content in the material using low concentrations of PTFE in the plating bath. The as-synthesized plating layer shows excellent wear resistance and surface energy, as demonstrated by the various characterizations performed. The overall work is comprehensive, and I would suggest it for publication with some minor questions addressed:

 1. What is the composition of Ni-P plating solution? What ingredients are used? What are the temperature and pH conditions?

2. In the description of XRD pattern, please comment also the peaks relative to Ni3P, Ni and Fe.

3. On pag.6, ln175, authors say ‘From Fig. 3 and Fig. 4, when the concentration was 3 g/L, in the combined precipitation and stirring method, a high PTFE content in the plating layer and a fast plating speed could be achieved. Fig. 1 (c) shows a similar result’.

This sentence is not clear to me. According to caption, Fig. 1 (c) should refer to conventional process. Please revise it.

Reviewer 3 Report

1.      Please provide the concentration of the PTFE particles used in figure 2(b).

2.      Please provide the SEM surface image of the plating layer for all samples.

3.      The surface energy of the plating layer was 17.41 and 12.51 mN/m for PTFE concentrations of 3 and 9 g/L using stirring, respectively. Why the Ni-P-PTFE plating layer was partially worn for 3g/L and mostly worn for 9g/L?

Round 2

Reviewer 3 Report

The surface energy is determined by the surface condition of film. Please put the surface morphology on the text and discuss the relationship between the surface energy and surface morphology.
