Comments and Suggestions for Authors

Dear Authors,

I have read your paper "Long-term corrosion behavior of 434 stainless steel coatings on T6061 Aluminium alloy in chloride environments" carefully.

Explanations are clear and the manuscript is easy to read.

However, it requires few corrections.

1. Please, add in the section introduction motivation of the use ferritic steel in this work.

2. There is no information about the choice of spray modes. Please, add in the section 2.1

3. You must add citation https://doi.org/10.1016/j.surfcoat.2015.12.075. when write about Cr2O5 oxid. Also, citation [21] have to add in the section 2.5.

4. Why did you use only 12 layers? Probably, 20 or more layers is more better.

5.  Why did not mesure Tafel curve for 434 steel?

6. Please, add dimensions for potential and current density in the table 3.

7. Did you measure content of close and open pores in the sprayed coatings?

The paper can be accepted for publication after improvements

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The manuscript entitled “Long-term corrosion behavior of 434 stainless steel coatings on T6061 Aluminium alloy in chloride environments” addresses the critical issue of improving aluminum alloy corrosion resistance via HVOF-applied stainless steel coatings. While the study is relevant and employs diverse methodologies, several areas require refinement. My comments are below:

1.      The abstract and introduction lack clarity in presenting the novelty of the work. The abstract should include specific results, such as numerical improvements in corrosion resistance, while the introduction could better emphasize the unique contributions to long-term corrosion studies.

2.      The experimental section is detailed but inconsistent in reporting replication, with the number of samples clearly mentioned only for the salt spray tests. Key parameters, such as coating temperatures, are missing, and adherence to international standards for broader relevance should be discussed. In fact, the deposition temperatures reported in Table 2 are always equal to 25 °C: for each condition, it is a nominal temperature instead a measured one.

3.      The results are comprehensive, but data presentation is inconsistent. Figures and tables sometimes lack units or detailed legends. The discussion provides valuable insights into the role of thickness and porosity but remains largely qualitative. The interpretation of Nyquist plots and galvanic corrosion mechanisms would benefit from greater depth and quantification.

4.      The conclusions effectively summarize the findings but lack reflection on broader applications and study limitations.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The work has improved, but some critical issues remain. The analysis of the Nyquist diagrams is still qualitative; a more detailed discussion in the text would be beneficial, particularly for the SS3 and SS4 coatings. Additionally, it would be useful to include quantitative data for Rct, Rcoat, etc., possibly presented in tables to enable a clear comparison between the samples.
