Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

I agree with the revised paper

Reviewer 2 Report

Dear author,

I reviewed the revised version of the paper entitled “SAR Signal formation and image reconstruction of a moving sea target” and am satisfied with the changes performed to the manuscript.

This manuscript is a resubmission of an earlier submission. The following is a list of the peer review reports and author responses from that submission.

Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The paper discussed the SAR imaging method for moving ships. This is an important topic. However, the geometric and signal model in this paper is normal and the novelty of correspoding image reconstrcution is poor.

Reviewer 2 Report

The introduction presents the state-of-art of methodologies that are similar to the proposed method. The authors show the goals of paper, these are the contributions of paper. I agree with the introduction section.

Section 2, 3, and 4 have not references, these sections are difficult to read because one can not see what are the definitions or equations proposed by the author. I recommend that the author will be more careful with the content of the state-of-art and the proposed methodology.

Comparative methods should be included in the experimental results to demonstrate the performance of proposed method against others.

Reviewer 3 Report

Dear author,

I reviewed the paper entitled “SAR Signal formation and image reconstruction of a moving sea target”. The paper deals with a review of the scenario of a moving sea target, considering the SAR sensor, the movement of the target, and the geometry of acquisition. Then the classical process of signal formation and image reconstruction is reviewed and discussed, introducing, finally, an algorithm for image reconstruction combined with higher order phase compensation. The quality of the final image is analyzed using entrophy minimization. All the theorical aspects are assessment with a simulation experiment which gives satisfactory results.

The paper is interesting and well written. The Introduction reviews the theoretical aspects related to SAR observation of a moving target related to signal processing and image formation, and states the objectives of the work. The paper is dense in the description of methodology although its formulation is very detailed. Note that all the references are in introduction. Some references should be added to support the theoretical basis described in sections 2 to 4.2.

In the discussion section, the advantages of the proposed algorithm should be analyzed regarding other algorithms/methods in literature for image reconstruction of a moving sea target, which should be referenced.

Please, check a minor typo in line 109.
