100 Gbps Dynamic Extensible Protocol Parser Based on an FPGA
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
Thank you for giving me this opportunity to review this submission. The authors presented a general dynamic extensible protocol parser deployed on FPGA, 8 which supports the real-time update of network protocol parsing rules by configuring extended 9 protocol descriptors.
I believe this is a nice piece of work, as it is novel in the computing literature. The theoretical propositions are rigorous and nicely presented. Nevertheless, I have some reservations before this paper can be accepted for publication. Please consider the following:
- I think the gaps and the motivations for this work, as presented in the Introduction section, are lacking. Although the objectives are defined, the need for proposed approach is missing.
- The discussion related to Figure 1 should be added. Please check captions and labels of figures, equations, and tables.
- Please revise the Conclusion section to show main contributions of this work.
The source of the data for case study is artificial. Give justification of the data given in Table 2, 3.
- Literature review should be improved. The authors should read recent papers related to the study; Complex linear Diophantine fuzzy sets and their cosine similarity measures with applications; Applying the Dijkstra Algorithm to Solve a Linear Diophantine Fuzzy Environment; etc.
- Please discuss Section 6 with more detail. Add a comparative analysis of proposed work with some existing techniques to improve the validity and efficiency of proposed approach.

In this manuscript, authors proposed a general dynamic extensible protocol parser deployed on FPGA. The results indicates that this method can effectively support the protocol parsing of 100 Gbps high-speed network data packets, and can update the protocol parsing rules under ultra-low latency. A real-time update of network protocol parsing rules should be supported by configuring extended protocol descriptors. So, the multi-queue protocol management mechanism is adopted to realize the grouping management and rapid parsing of the extended protocol. The manuscript is well organized and the English is clear. It can be published even at the present version.

The paper proposes a general dynamic extensible protocol parser deployed on FPGA, which supports the real-time update of network protocol parsing rules by configuring extended protocol descriptors. The results demonstrate the method can effectively support the protocol parsing of 100Gbps high-speed network data packets, and can dynamically update the protocol parsing rules under ultra-low latency.
Overall, the article is well-designed, but can be improved in the following areas:
- the introduction should not be divided into two subsections;
- to choose a more appropriate title for point 2 and to link its content to the introduction and research in the field;
- to indicate the authors' plans for future research in the field.

Reviewer 4 Report
Summary :
In this work, a general dynamic extensible protocol parser deployed on FPGA is proposed. The proposed protocol supports the real-time update of network protocol parsing rules by configuring extended protocol descriptors.
The manuscript is interesting; however, the following comments need to be addressed :
1 – Improvement ratio between the proposed and existing work need to be included at the end of the abstract .
2 – a summary table at the end of the related work need to be included. The summary table should include: 1) name and reference of the method, 2) brief methodology, 3) highlights, and 4) limitations .
3 – In the conclusion, the limitation of the existing works and future direction should be stated .
