Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The article is devoted to the actual topic of regulation of the PMSM. Confirmed by experiments, the results of the application of the proposed method of regulation is of high practical value. The authorship of the developed methods should be emphasized separately: ISMO, ISMDO, ISMO+ISMDO.

The formula (3) does not explain the physical meaning of the coefficient 3/2, the reference is not given.

The alpha-beta coordinate system requires additional description, preferably with a visual illustration.

Table 1 and figure 2 are difficult to understand and further explanation is needed.

The lines on the graphs of figure 2 are pale; at the zero level they are superimposed on each other and are indistinguishable.

It is necessary to describe in formulas the meaning of superscripts ~ ^ ` in formulas.

The delta e in line 208 is characterized by the absence of a slope (italic).

In table 2, flux linkage refers to the flux linkage of the permanent magnet of the inductor with the armature winding?

Additional windows in figure 9 are small. Perhaps they should be shown separately in close-up under the letters C D E. And figure 10 is similar. When printing an article on paper, the indexes will be unreadable. Legends in figures 12 and 13 - the font size is small.

As disadvantages, it should be noted the complexity of mathematical calculations, which can cause a decrease in reader interest. As a fundamental work, this article will be valuable only for a narrow circle of mathematicians. For a wide range of readers who could apply the described methods in practice, it is recommended to expand the Simulation Verification section. In the current form of the article, it is almost impossible to recreate a program or a working controller from it.

Reviewer 2 Report

The submitted research work proposes an improved sliding mode observer (ISMO) compound control scheme, which is combined with a disturbance observer, aiming to address the chattering and anti-disturbance problems of conventional sliding mode observer (SMO) for permanent magnet synchronous motor. The paper is well-organized. The Introduction contains a comprehensive literature review and discusses the limitations and disadvantages of the already available control approaches and systems. The fundamentals of the introduced control scheme are presented in detail in the next sections. The superior performance of the introduced control scheme is validated by providing both experimental and simulation evidence. Only few revisions are suggested. The most important ones are the following:

a) Improve the quality of the included figures, especially the quality of Figures 1,2, 9, 12, 13 and 14. The minimum requirements set by the journal have to be met.

b) Please discuss more the provided results. More authors’ insightful comments are expected to be found by the reader.

Minor editing of English language is required. In general, the English language and style are fine.

Reviewer 3 Report

The paper deals with PMSM Sensorless Anti-disturbance Control Strategy Based on Improved Sliding Mode Observer. It has been extensively studied and the paper is well written. Some comments are mentioned below to improve the paper.

1. Bulk references such as line 32 can be avoided.

2. Quality of figures should be improved wherever possible.

3. Some grammatical and formatting errors should be corrected. For example line 276, 11rpm should have a space between number and unit.

4. A comprehensive conclusion should be written, mentioning the deficiency of the proposed scheme and how it can be improved if further investigated.

Detailed comments: 1. In line 32, references [1–3] are given. Each reference should be used for a separate statement.   2. Bulk references should be avoided and if used, they should be referred again in the next lines. If they are not used further, they are unnecessary and should be removed. An example is ref. [5-7] line 45.   3. symbols used for variables need defining each time they are used the first time. Example currents in equation (6), line 123 to 124.   4. Correction is needed in line 143, "the value of a"   5. Figure 1 does not give detail of the curves and the quality is also not good. It needs improvement.   6. subsection 2.5 PLL should be changed to full form. Similar subsection headings should be written in full form.   7. Quality of Figure 3 should be improved, Sin() and Cos() in the blocks can be revised including angle concerned.   8. Figure 12 and 13 mention  the word "simulation". It should be experiment results.   9. The experiment results show that the response time to stable the speed is longer. The error is also higher in experiment results. Explain these differences based on specific paramenters.   10. A comprehensive conclusion should be drawn based on the simulation and experiment results.

Round 2

Reviewer 2 Report

The submitted research work proposes an improved sliding mode observer (ISMO) compound control scheme, which is combined with a disturbance observer, aiming to address the chattering and anti-disturbance problems of conventional sliding mode observer (SMO) for permanent magnet synchronous motor. The quality of the revised manuscript has been improved. There are no further questions and concerns from my side. The authors addressed sufficiently the suggested revisions.

Minor editing of English language is required. In general, the English language and style are fine.
