Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This paper highlights the design of a CMOS On-Chip rectifier with a -31.7dBm sensitivity suitable for microwave wireless power transfer. Below is my comment:

The paper does not explicitly describe the operational mode of the rectifier. Section 2 needs to be improved by describing how the charge pump rectifier operates.

A clear distinction between the single diode rectifier, cross-coupled rectifier and the ULPD needs to be provided

A rectifier chip in CMOS for microwave wireless power transfer with low sensitivity power is reported in this manuscript. It is impressive on the size and sensitivity. However, the current version contains quite a few major concerns, which should be claimed clearly before further consideration.

1. Innovation and advantages of the proposed work is still unclear in the entire manuscript, it is much better for the authors to resummarize the main selling-point and emphasize it in the Abstract, Introduction and rehighlight in the Conclusions.

2. Figure 11 is the block diagram of the measurement setup, which is not impressive. It is supposed to be use the photograph of  measurement setup to show more directly and significantely. Particularly, it will bring in the evaluation board in detailed form and make all readers know the design more clearly and easily.

3. All simulation results in this manuscript are in low resolusion, which are supposed to be improved.

4. Figure 8 shows a process structure of the pad. It is suggested that the authors to give another figure to show the cross-section view of the utilized CMOS process.

This paper presents the lower operating power limit and small area of on- 10 chip rectifiers for microwave wireless power transfer. It's well written but there are also several questions should be modified before publication.

1. In the introduction, only 2 references are in recent three years. The authors should review much more reference published within three years to fully reflect the current innovation and advancement of this paper.

2. Please pay more attention to the writing format in the following sentences, such as “<200µm2” ,”10GΩ”, “Pin”, “Pin – Pout” and so on.

3. In Table 6, only one paper was published within the last five years. It is suggested to add several references published recently for better comparison.
