Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The paper presents a method to detect and correct the wrong encoder readings when using an absolute encoder to control the PMSM. The presentation is largely clear and easy to follow. However, the method presented is a general engineering approach and lacks originity. More advanced methods for example phase locked loop are available to solve the problem. The scientific contribution of the paper is limited.

* Abstract, please rephrase:
>> " it is still possible to control the synchronous motor using the permanent magnet synchronous motor."

* When electric motor is inolved, the term is motor and not engine.
For example:
"This also allows for correct measurement of the engine speed."

* Equation 5 must be explained. For example, why a division by 2^12 is required ?

* You should add a picture with the real circuit (DSP and MAB28).

* There is a lack of logic:
" In the author's experience, connecting the
103 encoder merely with the usual wire strip results in improper encoder operation. This is caused by
104 the signal processor frequently reading the wrong positions in the encoder. "
>> So, the processor is frequently reading the wrong positions because ...

* What do you mean by:
Equation (9) can be determined for the correct measurement of the angle of the motor shaft position.
??

* Chapter 2. Control 44 unit for PMSM up to row 83, page 3 is not relevant. It should be removed.

The paper must be corrected. It is not very clear how the wrong reading of the encoder are detected!

Reviewer 3 Report

This paper deals with the measurement results and measuring accuracy of the shaft position of PMSM using absolute encoder. This paper deals with the fundamental and important issues in rotating machinery and is well organized. However, this paper needs to be revised.

1. Sort the keywords alphabetically.

2. Add more references to what is described in the introduction.
For example, the author need to add a reference to the statement on line 22 and the statement on line 31.

3. The author need to add more discussion about the experimental results. For example, why is the error rate independent of PWM frequency?
