Wind Characteristics and Temporal Trends in Eastern Paraná State, Brazil
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
This study assesses the wind regime and analysis trends in a complex region due to the influence of meteorological systems on several scales and the orography. Detection of trends and temporal rupture points were done using different statistical methods using several long time series datasets. The paper has some value and some novelty and the authors produce interesting results. However, there are some points that need to be improved.
1) For reliable estimation of variance, it is necessary to guarantee some properties (distribution independence, a large sample size, and a normal distribution). In meteorological systems, the measurement process in general only has a few samples. This means it is not possible to verify the hypotheses required of a good estimator. Please introduce a section specifying the error of the variance estimate caused by the number of samples and showing that the distribution is normal.
2) Improve the quality of the figures, some are unreadable

Authors: The Shapiro-Wilk test results seek to assess if the data fits into a normal distribution. This is highlighted in yellow in the text.
2) Improve the quality of the figures, some are unreadable.
Authors: From the reviewer's suggestions, the improvement of Figures has been carried out with the increase of them, allowing the visualization of the information inserted in its interior.

Article review report no. climate-2235311
This article analyzes wind conditions in eastern Paraná state, Brazil. Meteorological data from 1976-2010 were used for the analysis. The collected data were evaluated using statistical methods. The source base in this article is very impressive. The work also contains a great many results.
My main complaint concerns the quality of the drawings presented. This paper presents histograms and roses. The fonts and descriptions for these graphs are too small. And the drawings themselves are also too small. I recommend greatly enlarging these drawings and providing a better font on each of them. In fact, this remark applies to all the figures contained in this work. First of all, it's about the drawings in the results.
The second note concerns the formatting of references. According to the MDPI guidelines, journal names should have an abbreviated version.

The paper is entitled of " Wind characteristics and temporal trends in eastern Parana state Brazil". This paper is interesting and meaningful. Some of the questions listed below can be improved to have the paper mor impact.
1. In Fig. 7, the parametric test for the monthly scale is a method to evaluate the result. Is it possible to describe the physics behind the method?
2. Besides the state region in this paper, is there other region affected by the wind and can be compared to this model? It can be updated in the conclusion section.

Authors: Figure 6 shows the temporal distribution of wind speed in the regions analyzed. We do not assess the physical mechanisms associated with wind speed reduction because it is not one of the research aims. Since these cities grew more intensely beginning in the 1980s, we are constrained to assumptions. Curitiba is one of Brazil's major cities and has a significant building verticalization process, so we suspect that urbanization is one of the elements causing wind speed reduction. This is highlighted in yellow in the text.
2) Besides the state region in this paper, are there other regions affected by the wind and can be compared to this model? It can be updated in the conclusion section.
Authors: Throughout the discussions of the results, we have analyzed several research that are close to the area under study, such as Correia Filho et al. (2021) and Correia Filho (2022). We made a modification in the text of the conclusions, but we chose to maintain citations of other research and results in the previous item. We highlight this in yellow in the text.
