The article entitled „Research on mechanical properties of V-type folded configuration investigates the equivalent mechanical properties of the V-type folded configuration according to the principle of equivalent load-deformation.

The paper's premise is interesting and important. The title properly reflect the subject of the paper.

The abstract provide an accessible summary of the paper.

The introduction needs improvement. In the end of the introduction, it should be highlighted the novelty and topicality of the manuscript, and the research aims.

The authors should reference recent literature. I would recommend adding more references from the last 5 years.

I would propose the addition of a new section - „Research methodology” in which to present the research method approached in the study.

I suggest renaming the section Example” - “Case study”. It is just an opinion.

The tables and the figures aid to understand. In the section “5.3 Optimization results” please consider to evaluate the trends observed and explain the significance of the results to wider understanding. Consider to referencing published research.

I suggest making the paper's contribution be clearer in the introduction and conclusion.

In the conclusions please consider to add a critical analysis of the data collected. Please consider to suggest ways future research that might confirm the findings or take the research forward.

I recommend proofreading the English language. In the paper there are small speech errors.

For the optimization history of each objective, the trend in the graph represents the journey of the optimization software –“Isight” to find the optimal solution. I have added the influence of the geometric parameters in the optimization results on the optimization objective, so that the designer can focus on different parameters depending on the needs of the objective. 【Rows 408 to 413】

General statement

This is an interesting paper concerning investigations the equivalent mechanical  properties of the V-type folded configuration (VFC). Based on geometrical considerations and using the principle of equivalent load-equivalent deformation the authors proposed analytical solutions of the elastic modulus and the shear modulus belonging to VFC.  Next the folded configurations with different geometries are designed  and numerically simulated by Nastran to verify the analytical model. The final conclusion is that the presented  analytical solutions of VFC can be applied to simplify the optimization process and eliminates the complicated modeling process.

Comments

The relations given by equations (2) and (3) are not obvious. Please consider showing their derivation in the appendix. Please support the derivation of the formulas with appropriate drawings

In my opinion, the paper is interesting and worth publishing. I recommend a minor revision.

The paper presents a thorough study regarding numerical simulation of the mechanical properties of V-type folded configuration. My main suggestion regarding the manuscript is related to the correlation between the literature part and the data presented. I noticed the introduction part illustrating state-of-the-art presents a great deal of information related to experimental studies, while the data presented in the manuscript is focused exclusively on numerical simulation, without references to the existence of experimental data. Therefore, my suggestion would be to "equalize" these two issues. If there are any experimental data obtained within the study, they should be mentioned (not necessarily described in details), as they would be helpful for the wider image of the study. Also, the introduction part should present more or less in an equal manner the experimental and simulation data available in literature.

Response 1: Thanks for your suggestion. I agree that the inclusion of experiments would be more beneficial to this study. However, since we chose multiple working conditions to analyze during the verification of the analytical solution of the mechanical properties of the V-type folded core, each corresponding to one structural form, this would lead to a very large experimental workload. In addition, with the help of experimental analysis, we consider the need to add flat plates on the top and bottom surfaces of the core material, and the deformation of the flat plate material will also have an impact on the experimental results. Of course there will be more suitable test methods. We believe that the experiment is more conducive to analyzing the variation pattern of structural mechanical properties. However, at the beginning of the initial study, considering the large amount of experimental work and the uncertainty, we finally chose to use finite element software simulation for numerical verification. Not conducting experiments is also our shortcoming, and we thank you again for your suggestions.

 

Point 2: Also, the introduction part should present more or less in an equal manner the experimental and simulation data available in literature.

 

Response 2: We have included a description of previous research results in the introduction section, however, most of the literature in the introduction section is devoted to the study of the laws of mechanical properties of wrinkled cores and does not summarize a complete analytical solution for the mechanical properties. The data in the introduction section has little impact on my research, so there is not much mention of data from previous studies. Thank you again for your suggestion.
