This manuscript by Bessonov et al. proposed a model system for viral growth and evaluated the model performance with two reduced ODE model systems.
The paper is generally well-written and the structure is clear to follow. However, a few minor points may need to be addressed to further improve the manuscript.
1. Please consider providing a table of all the parameters in the model. It will make readers easier to follow the equation derivations.
2. Please separate each figure into panels instead of just describing them as "Figure 3 left" and "Figure 3 right".
3. During the biological validation, please provide more details as to how each parameter was selected. When dealing with various biological systems, how would one optimize the model parameters?
4. For numerical simulations, please provide more context of the model performance (i.e. time for one complete simulation for the full model, vs. reduced models).

Viral infection spreading in cell culture with intracellular regulation
In the current work, authors develop a multiscale model of infection progression which combines macroscopic characterization of virus plaque growth in cell culture with a reference model of intracellular virus replication. The authors determine the infection spreading speed and viral load in a model for the extracellular dynamics and the kinetics of abundance of intracellular viral genomes and proteins.
I have some comments to the authors:
Page 4: Is the equation (2.1)-(2.5) have only one stationary point? If not, please add other points. It will be better also to add linearized system and not only coefficients matrix.
Page 9: Section “Reduced models” to what?
Please add the section “Conclusions”
