In this paper, an OTF-based resolution evaluation method in the optical design process of crossed-asymmetric Czerny–Turner spectrometers is proposed, the effect of slit width and slit functions on the resolution of spectrometer are analyzed respectively. However, there are some questions:

1. Are there any other factors which would affect the resolution of the spectrometer in addition to the slit width and slit function?

2. If the pixel size of the CCD device varies, how the resolution of the spectrum will be influenced?

3. According to Fig. (3), the rectangle slit function seems to have a better spectrum resolution under different wavelength and slit width(including 25 um) than the Gaussian slit function. The FWHM of the measured spectrum in Fig. (3) is the result of multiple factors including the slit width and function, is it appropriate to use it as a criterion for evaluation?

4. Author should summarize the effect of different slit width and slit function on the spectrum resolution, more explanation should be given instead of only presenting the results.

This manuscript proposed an OTF-based resolution evaluation method in the optical design process of crossed-asymmetric Czerny–Turner spectrometers. It is well organized and written, and this study can provide guidance for the evaluation of spectral resolution in the optical design process. Here are some suggestions.

 

The image quality of the right part of Fig. 2 (a) needs to be improved.

Different between simulated waveforms with different slit functions and measured waveforms are studied in the manuscript in Line199-206. I think the description of Fig.5 is not detailed enough and should be supplemented.

This paper describes one theoretical model to simulate the performance of one Czerny–Turner spectrometer and then demonstrated experimentally with a home-built system. I think that it is a useful tool. I just have two questions.
1, This paper compared the results achieved by slit with increasing width. Which width is best, or is it that different width has different application field?
2, Does this theoretical model have the potential to be used for describing other kinds of spectrometers theoretically?
