Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Dear Authors,

I was reading your article with pleasure because the topic you described is of big importance. Every expert in the field knows how crucial is iron removal from the aluminum re-melted ingots. The article is written very well and I found only some minor issues listed below. After you consider my remarks I positive to publish the article without next review.

  1. Page 2, line 59: remove the comma.
  2. Page 3, line 83: It could be better to present the cited Figure at the same page as it was first cited.
  3. Page 3, line 110: please explain, why the Mn content increase is necessary for this process?
  4. Page 4, line 135: I wonder if it could be good to present more precisely the HSMC method? Perhaps some picture? I know that earlier the source was cited but nevertheless please consider this.
  5. Page 7, line 212: Delete the comma.

Sincerely,

Reviewer

Author Response

Dear Reviewer,

Many thanks for reviewing the manuscript and for your valuable comments. Please find below my respond to your comments:

1.Page 2, line 59: remove the comma.

Done.

2. Page 3, line 83: It could be better to present the cited Figure at the same page as it was first cited.

Line 81-83 present the aim of the study.

3. Page 3, line 110: please explain, why the Mn content increase is necessary for this process?

Discussed in Page 2 line 64.

4. Page 4, line 135: I wonder if it could be good to present more precisely the HSMC method? Perhaps some picture? I know that earlier the source was cited but nevertheless please consider this.

HSMC method Discussed in Page 2 line 72 and I have mentioned to a reference that shows the details of the device in Page 3 line 94.

5. Page 7, line 212: Delete the comma.

Done.

Kind regards

Reviewer 2 Report

 Comments for revision.

  1. The amount of the added degassing tablet (FOSECO Nitral C19) should be given out.
  2. For “XRT sensing and sorting.”, the meaning of XRT should be explained when it appeared first time.
  3. “The recovery yield of the cast aluminium alloy was over 80%.”. The reviewer thought that 80% is relatively low. Why the recovery is so low? Or it should be compared with the data by other researchers.

Dear Reviewer,

Many thanks for reviewing the manuscript and for the useful comments. Please find below my respond to your comments:

1. The amount of the added degassing tablet (FOSECO Nitral C19) should be given out.

Done , Page 3 Line 91.

2. For “XRT sensing and sorting.”, the meaning of XRT should be explained when it appeared first time.

Explained in Page 1 line 37 and Page 3 Line 85.

3. “The recovery yield of the cast aluminium alloy was over 80%.”. The reviewer thought that 80% is relatively low. Why the recovery is so low? Or it should be compared with the data by other researchers.

Since it is recycled source material, it contains a lot of oxides in addition to plastic material. The skimmed dross consist of Aluminum and Silicon oxides. That is why the recovery around 80% and there is no reference to compare with.

Kind Regards

Reviewer 3 Report

The influence of high shear melt conditioning technology on degassing and deironing during recycling of aluminium is reported in the manuscript. Positive roles of the method on the phase composition and morphology of primary phases as well as improved degassing melt treatment are mentioned. In combination with Mn addition further improvement and effectiveness of the process could be reached.

The manuscript contains several minor formal and typographic issues, which should be considered.

l142 Tab. 1 wt% → wt.%

l146-147: Use rounded values respecting the real accuracy of density index measurements (not only the method but also the inhomogeneity of the material).

l168 and Tab.2: Use rounded values for DI, grain sizes (and their experimental scatters).

Use space between values and units everywhere or nowhere.

Check capital letters in figure captions.
