This manuscript provides novel information regarding the impacts of intrinsic (genetic) and extrinsic (diet) factors on appearance of the orange-footed muscle trait and growth performance in Haliotis gigantea. In my opinion, this is an interesting work, and it could be accepted for publication considering the following minor revisions:

Line 22. Please change “from macroalgae” to “from the macroalgae”.

Line 30. “G. lemaneiformis” should be italic.

Lines 69-74. Please add a sentence here about the macroalgae G. lemaneiformis (its characteristics and active ingredients).

Line 95. The main ingredients of regular formulated feed used before the main trial should be provided here.

Line 117. In my opinion, Figure S1 should be given in the main text as Figure 1, as it provides essential information in a concise way.

Lines 129-131. Please provide more details about the feeding rate used during the 90-day feeding trial and if any coating material was used to stabilize the pigments in feed before feeding.

Lines 146-165. One or two relevant references should be added to this paragraph.

Line 164. Please change “via” to “vial”.

Line 216. Please change “in our study” to “was found in our study”.

Line 225. “displays” is the correct word.

Lines 251-252. This sentence should be removed or moved to the section discussion.

Lines 303-306. Please also mention in this sentence that natural pigments have a better deposition in animal tissues and provide a relevant reference.
