Unlocking New Frontiers in Cell Signaling and Communication and Fostering New Collaborative Interactions and Scientific Initiatives: Lessons Learned from the International Cellular Communication Network Society (ICCNS) Workshopâ€
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
Comments and Suggestions for AuthorsThe manuscript provides a review of the 12th International Workshop on the CCN Family of Genes held in Oslo, summarizing three key presentations: 1) Li-Jen Lee investigated the role of CCN2 in depressive and aggressive behaviors in mice, offering insights into its function in neurodevelopment and potential therapeutic applications for neuropsychiatric disorders. 2) Anna Zampetaki and Brahim Chaqour examined CCN2’s influence on microvascular metabolism and mechanosensing, particularly its role in endothelial cell behavior and microvascular diseases.3) Bjoern Hoegberg presented advancements in DNA origami technology, emphasizing its potential in drug delivery, cellular targeting, and biosensing.
Major
- While the summaries of individual presentations are comprehensive, a more critical discussion of their broader implications, limitations, and future research directions would enhance the manuscript’s impact. Additionally, a concluding section summarizing the workshop as a whole and contextualizing these studies within its overarching theme would provide greater coherence.
- The discussion on ARBIOCOM is promising but lacks clarity. A more detailed outline of its objectives, structure, and potential challenges would strengthen its relevance.

Reviewer 2 Report
Comments and Suggestions for AuthorsThe paper by Perbal, Weiskirchen and Chaqour is reporting from a workshop of the International Cellular Communication Netwok Society (ICCNS) concentrating on 4 outstanding talks.
Title: Why are workshops (plural) mentioned when this is proceedings from one workshop. The abbreviation ICCNS should be spelled in full.
Abstract: Would be useful to add in brackets short affiliations of the speakers.
A title of all the talks should be given (not just for Högberg talk)
- 1 Line 39: give a short introductory overview of CCN family proteins
- 2 Line 34: give short description of CCN2.
- 2 Line 41-42: why is absence in amygdala emphasized first? Some clue is found only at the end of pgph below. An explanation should be given at the indicated lines.
p.2. line 49: increases
- 3 line 5-6: give short explanation what is “resident-intruder task”.
p.3 line 13-14: This sentence is contradictory. How can antibody against CNN2 act on a genotype without CNN2?!
- 3 line 31: Please dwell a bit on how can oligodendrocytes affect behavior.
- 4- line 11-12: it can be separated as question (iv).
- 5 line 2: e.g. which enzymes?
p.5 line 12: give short introductory explanation what is DNA origami.
- 6 line 9-13: what is the justification for these two rather general statements?
- 6 line 29: What is the justification of the term “revitalized”? Did the Society seize to operate at some point?
MINOR
- 1 Line 13: give full name of abbreviation (CCN) on first mention and just abbreviation at line 15.
p.4 line 29: BC - here and elsewhere give full name
p.4 line 42: “blood brain barrier”
p.5 line 12: BH – give full name
p.5 line 17: provide
