Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

A very interesting piece of work in technology. I believe that the authors should supplement the article with some information: 1) Give examples of practical application of the developed solution. 2) Discuss how to validate the proposed models. Taking these comments into account will give the article additional value.

This paper studied the thermo-mechanical analysis of a simply supported five-layer functionally Graded (FG) sandwich plate resting on a Winkler elastic foundation, using the first shear deformation theory (FSDT). The work is interesting, some comments are as follows:

Table 2, (℃) Temperature, the unit should be put after the parameter ‘Temperature’.

Table 3, the unit should be put at the end, I believe it should be E_core (GPa), T (oC)

Table 4, the unit of alpha is better presented as C^-1, not in the form of 1 over C.

The unit is Tables 6-10 should be unified, both 10^6 and 10^+6 exist. Both x and * exist for ‘multiply’. Normally the unit of stress should be Pa, not pa. And I would suggest to directly use MPa to replace 10^6Pa.

For all the tables, some of the text/symbols are bold, whereas others are not. I don’t believe it is necessary to use bold. eg, Table 5, why the last column is not in bold while all others are in bold?

Give a little bit more explanation about the difference/novelty of this paper compared with the previously published one ‘Free Vibrational Analysis of a Functionally Graded Five-Layer Sandwich Plate Resting on a Winkler Elastic Foundation in a Thermal Environment’

Except for the line plots, I could not see any FE model details (geometry model, meshes, boundary conditions, or results contours etc) in the text or figures.

Please consider enriching the introduction a little bit on FGMs and the applications, e.g. in the aerospace, doi: 10.3897/arb.v33.e14; 10.1016/j.compstruct.2015.08.113
