Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This paper presents the synthesis of composite adsorbent for adsorption of dyes from water. In my opinion, this paper can be accepted for publication and the following comments are suggested to consider:

1. The molecular structure and maximum absorption wavelength of Acid Yellow 23 dye should be provided.

2. The morphology of hydrogel beads is suggested to characterize by SEM.

3. A scheme to illustrate the adsorption mechanism is suggested to provide.

4. Why the adsorbents with different content of OBent show similar swelling capacity.

5. Considering practical application, the effect of ionic strength (e.g, in the present of NaCl electrolyte) on the adsorption is suggested to study.

  1. I am of the opinion that your manuscript requires several improvements prior to being considered for publication. Below, you will find a list of comments pertaining to this manuscript.
    1. Begin the abstract with a broad statement that underscores the significance of your research.

  1. 2. The literature review section requires strengthening. Incorporate a minimum of 5-8 recent, highly cited articles into this segment.

  1. 3. Emphasize the novelty and importance of your study in the introduction.

  1. 4. The initial two sentences in the introduction are disconnected from the study's significance. Start the introduction by addressing the impact of water pollution and its significance (lines 31, 32, 33).

  1. 5. Before delving into Azo dyes in the introduction, introduce a few sentences about the repercussions of dye pollutants on aquatic ecosystems and human health (line 37).

  1. 6. Prior to discussing Clays, insert a sentence highlighting various types of adsorbents employed for dye adsorption (line 53).

  1. 7. A lack of semantic continuity is evident in the manuscript (Line 49 to 92).

  1. 8. The manuscript's English language necessitates revision by an editor proficient in English. The sentence construction needs improvement, leading to difficulties in following your manuscript.

  1. 9. Enhance the characterization section by incorporating SEM and FT-IR experiments.

  1. 10 Conduct the adsorption study within a real wastewater matrix and compare the results.

  1. 11. Strengthen the discussion section by drawing comparisons between your findings and those of other studies.

The manuscript's English language necessitates revision by an editor proficient in English. The sentence construction needs improvement, leading to difficulties in following your manuscript.

Round 2

Reviewer 1 Report

The authors have addressed the comments in the revised manuscript, and the paper can be accepted for publication now.

Author Response

Thank you very much for your comments on the manuscript. I have already replied to the reviewer in the previous round.

Reviewer 2 Report

Thank you, the manuscript improved significantly. However I still believe you must add the result of the case study in this manuscript and publishing them in another study could be considered as segmented publication which is not acceptable. I will accept the manuscript after adding this section.
