Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This paper entails an interesting overview about the use of natural Curcumin as antiviral agent and the related problems to overcome curcumin drug resistance. Moreover, the problems related to its solubility and bioavailability and different techniques used to improve its medicinal activity are discussed. Indeed, taxonomic classification and global distribution are collected. The topic proposed by the authors is of interest for the scientific community, and the synthesis made by the authors at each point is laudable. Moreover, the ratio of references to the size of the review is adequate. In my opinion, the manuscript is well-written and deserves interest to the audience of Compounds. However, I feel that some points are needed to be addressed before paper publication and the  manuscript deserves minor revison.

1)      The use of Curcumin based nanoparticles as highly potent, nontoxic, bioactive agent deserves more discussion. The benefits of using nanoparticles as vectors to improve medical activity, solubility problems should be discussed in the paper.

2)      In table 3, the mean size and charge of different nanosystems based on curcumin should be addressed. A discussion should be added attending the electrostatic natutre and related size of the synthesized nanosystem in relationto their antiviral activity and drug resistance.

3)      Finally, although it is mentioned in a collateral way, perhaps it would have been interesting to dedicate a section (or some lines) to the effectiveness of Curcumin on Outcomes of Hospitalized COVID-19 Patients.

Reviewer 2 Report

Bajarang Bal Lal Srivastava reported a literature review on curcumin. Its synergistic effects, anti-tumoral activities, and potential pharmacology application were discussed in detail.  The manuscript was written well and suggested for publication without any more revision.

Reviewer 3 Report

This review reports the Ethnomedicinal, Phytochemistry and Antiviral Potential of Tumeric (Curcuma Longa). The manuscript is well prepared and the subject is interesting. In my opinion, the manuscript is in a position to be accepted for publication after minor revision. Here are some comments on the manuscript:

Main Observation

-       For the first citation, the binomial name (Curcuma Longa) should be followed by the authority.

-       The authors must revise the cited keywords.

-       In my opinion, the botanical classification of Curcuma Longa must be cited in the first subtitle (1.1. Botanical Classification of C. Longa).

-       In table 1, the binomial name (Curcuma Longa) should be cited in the italic form.

-       The authors should change the paragraph order. For example, the (3.1. Mechanism of Antiviral Activity) must be cited in the (4.0. Improvement of Antiviral Activity of Curcumin) section and not in (3. Pharmacology of Curcumin) section.

General remarks:

-       Check the whole paper to remove spelling mistakes and insert blanks where necessary.

-       The form of the titles of the tables must be homogenized.

-       All the references should be cited in the text according to “instructions for authors” of the journal. In the same way, the references list should be revised and adapted to “instruction for authors” of the journal.

-       The titles and subtitles should be revised and adapted to “instruction for authors” of the journal.
