Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Overall, this paper provides a clear and concise

This manuscript provides an overview of the aim, methods, and results of the study. The use of a Qualtrics survey to collect data from a global sample of endurance athletes is appropriate for the research question. The statistical analysis using a Chi-squared test is also appropriate for determining significant differences between athlete characteristics and change in training status.

The paper could benefit from more detail on the specific COVID-19 safety restrictions that led to changes in training for the athletes. Additionally, it would be helpful to know more about the types of training changes that were made by athletes (e.g., reduction in volume or intensity, change in training location or equipment).

The discussion section provides some useful insights into how coaches and athletes can use the findings to adapt their training strategies during future pandemics. However, it would be helpful to provide more specific recommendations based on the results (e.g., tailored training programs based on age or prior coaching status).

Overall, this paper provides valuable insights into how COVID-19 safety restrictions have impacted endurance athletes' training and highlights important factors that should be considered when designing future training programs during pandemics.

After a careful peer-reviewing process I can inform you that this paper is interesting and can be considered for publication in COVID after MAJOR REVISION. The major issues are provided as follows:

1) Avoid introductory comments in abstract.  So the first three lines of the abstract must be omitted.

2) The state-of-the-art focused on training modification for athletes during pandemic situation must be provided as well.

3) As mentioned above, a comprehensive and comparative discussion is beneficial for this paper focused on responses why and how training changed due to COVID-19 pandemic.

4) Authors must provide a full affiliation information.

Minor corrections is required.

Reviewer 2 Report

The manuscript was prepared very well. The introduction section justifies the purpose of the study. I congratulate the authors for the preparation of the manuscript

I would like to congratulate the authors for the structure of the manuscript and all the research carried out. It is highly publishable. However, there are some concerns, in part

Introduction

·       Why is this study considered relevant?

·       I suggest that incorporating more background information on the objective of the study

·       Indicate some characteristics of the exercise in the covid 10.3390/v14122797 and 10.3390/ijerph17228496

Methods / Results

does not require changes is one of the strong parts of the study

Discussion

·       Include a section on strengths / limitations.

·       What does this article contribute to, the authors should make their own assessment and include their own discussion of the results shown in the manuscript?

·       include a section on practical applications

Conclusion

·        In the Conclusion section, state the most important outcome of your work. Do not simply summarize the points already made in the body — instead, interpret your findings at a higher level of abstraction. Show whether, or to what extent, you have succeeded in addressing the need stated in the Introduction (or objectives).

the manuscript is publishable with minor changes
