Feature papers represent the most advanced research with significant potential for high impact in the field. A Feature Paper should be a substantial original Article that involves several techniques or approaches, provides an outlook for future research directions and describes possible research applications.
Feature papers are submitted upon individual invitation or recommendation by the scientific editors and must receive positive feedback from the reviewers.
Editor’s Choice articles are based on recommendations by the scientific editors of MDPI journals from around the world. Editors select a small number of articles recently published in the journal that they believe will be particularly interesting to readers, or important in the respective research area. The aim is to provide a snapshot of some of the most exciting work published in the various research areas of the journal.

Congratulations to the editorial board member of Mathematical and Computational Applications, Professor J. N. Reddy, who has been selected to receive the 2019 Timoshenko Medal from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
Professor J. N. Reddy is the Oscar S. Wyatt Jr. Chair Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Texas A&M University. His research over the years has involved the development of dual-complementary variational principles in theoretical mechanics, mathematical theory of finite elements (especially mixed finite element formulations), refined mathematical models of laminated composite plates and shells, penalty formulations of the flows of viscous incompressible fluids, least-squares formulations of solid and fluid continua, and extensions and applications of the finite element method to a broad range of problems, including composite structures, numerical heat transfer, computational fluid dynamics, and biology and medicine. His shear deformation plate and shell theories and their finite element models as well as the penalty finite element models of non-Newtonian fluids have been implemented into commercial finite element computer programs like ABAQUS, NISA, and HyperXtrude.
According to the news from the Applied Mechanics Division, this award includes a medal, a plaque, and an honorarium and will be presented at the AMD Honors and Awards Banquet, tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, November 12, 2019, during the ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition. As part of the tradition, towards the end of the Applied Mechanics Banquet, the Timoshenko Medalist of the year will deliver a speech upon receiving the Medal.
The Timoshenko Medal was established in 1957 and is conferred in recognition of distinguished contributions to the field of applied mechanics. Instituted by the Applied Mechanics Division, it honors Stephen P. Timoshenko, world-renowned authority in the field, and it commemorates his contributions as an author and teacher.
Let’s congratulate J. N. Reddy again.
