Obituary—Prof. Akira Ito

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Tropical Medicine and Infectious Disease Editorial Board Member Professor Akira Ito. Professor Ito was the Chair of Parasitology at the Asahikawa Medical College, Asahikawa, Japan. He was a major figure in the field of parasitology, specifically in the research of echinococcosis and cysticercosis. The journal Tropical Medicine and Infectious Disease was very proud to have Prof. Ito on its Editorial Board.

Professor Ito published almost 450 scientific papers in internationally peer-reviewed journals. He was an inspirational laboratory head and mentor to postgraduate students and researchers in many countries.
