History of Stroke Imaging

Abstract

This chapter summarizes the history of cerebrovascular brain imaging from its early roots (clinical anatomy) in the 17th century to the first successful technological steps and the application of various brain and vessel imaging procedures in the last two centuries. Today, cerebrovascular ultrasound, cranial computed tomography and magnetic resonance brain imaging all contribute to our current diagnostic management for the best early stroke treatment in the acute phase with high-technology expertise.
