Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

One of the major challenges facing global agricultural production today is the introduction of exotic pests into new areas. This problem has escalated globally in recent years, driven by factors such as international trade, agricultural intensification, and climate change. The spread of transboundary pests that devastate crops is a major threat to food security. As a result, the intensive use of pesticides to control these pests threatens natural enemy diversity, human health, and the environment.

Preventing the introduction and establishment of pests in new areas is essential and requires a holistic strategy. This strategy should include risk forecasting, epidemiological modeling, diagnostic capacity, intensive surveillance and monitoring, timely communication, and the ability to enforce rapid containment measures when an invasion occurs.

This Special Issue aims to publish original articles that contribute to decision making by exploring the biology of invasive pests. We seek research on advances in tools that optimize surveillance, early detection, or monitoring systems for these pests. In addition, we welcome original articles on yield assessment and economic losses, information on potential pest establishment considering future climate scenarios, and innovative, environmentally friendly preventive control strategies and threat mitigation approaches.

We look forward to your contributions on this critical topic.

For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Agronomy is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs).
