Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Biomedical engineering stands at the forefront of pioneering advancements, with gene delivery tools assuming a pivotal role in shaping the future of healthcare. These tools are integral to comprehending, diagnosing, and addressing human diseases, particularly within the context of gene therapy—a promising strategy for ameliorating genetic disorders, cancers, and other maladies at the genetic level. They enable the precise conveyance of therapeutic genes or gene-editing components to afflicted cells, offering prospective remedies. Gene delivery tools significantly contribute to elucidating disease mechanisms, enhancing diagnostics and biomarker discovery, enabling targeted therapies, expediting drug development, bolstering vaccines and immunotherapy, advancing personalized medicine, and refining stem cell therapies. In summary, gene delivery tools are irreplaceable in propelling our understanding of human diseases, ensuring accurate diagnoses, and fostering the development of innovative therapies. Their capacity to target and manipulate genes holds the potential to revolutionize the field of medicine, bringing us nearer to efficacious treatments and cures for an extensive array of health challenges.
We extend an invitation to researchers, scientists, and engineers to share their insights and discoveries in our Special Issue on "Gene Delivery Tools for Biomedical Engineering Applications." This call for submissions aims to showcase the most recent advancements, methodologies, and applications in the domain of gene delivery.
We enthusiastically welcome submissions that explore, but are not constrained to, the following themes:
Innovative Gene Delivery Technologies: Novel gene delivery tools that demonstrate superior precision, efficiency, and safety in biomedical applications.
Therapeutic Applications: Research concerning the utilization of gene delivery tools in targeted therapies, encompassing gene therapy for genetic disorders, cancer treatment, and regenerative medicine.
Bioinformatics and Computational Approaches: Computational models and bioinformatics tools that augment the design and optimization of gene delivery systems.
Biocompatibility and Safety: Studies regarding the biocompatibility, toxicity assessments, and safety profiles of gene delivery tools.
Clinical Translation: Investigations into the translational potential of gene delivery tools, comprising clinical trials, regulatory considerations, and strategies for commercialization.
Multi-disciplinary Collaborations: Successful collaborative endeavors involving biomedical engineers, geneticists, clinicians, and other pertinent disciplines in the advancement of gene delivery technology.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Bioengineering is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
