Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a significant contributor to morbidity and mortality worldwide and is characterized by chronic inflammation, progressive airflow limitation, and diverse interactions between epithelial, immune, and structural lung cells. While EVs have increasingly been recognized in recent years for their essential role in intercellular communications, where they mediate the lung microenvironment, they are well-equipped to regulate immune responses, epithelial barrier integrity, and tissue remodeling.

This Special Issue will provide a window into the current view of the role of EVs in COPD. We welcome original research or review articles that focus on how EVs derived from structural or immune cells, or pathogens, are involved in the aetiology, exacerbations, and progression of COPD. Contributions discussing inflammation, cellular senescence, emphysematous changes, disease biomarkers, or targets for therapy, as well as smoking, environmental exposures, exacerbations, and the microbiota, are also welcome. This Special Issue aims to bring together mechanistic insights and translational perspectives to improve our understanding of EV biology in COPD and hopefully develop new avenues for the design of novel diagnostics and therapeutics.
