Feature papers represent the most advanced research with significant potential for high impact in the field. A Feature
Paper should be a substantial original Article that involves several techniques or approaches, provides an outlook for
future research directions and describes possible research applications.
Feature papers are submitted upon individual invitation or recommendation by the scientific editors and must receive
positive feedback from the reviewers.
Editor’s Choice articles are based on recommendations by the scientific editors of MDPI journals from around the world.
Editors select a small number of articles recently published in the journal that they believe will be particularly
interesting to readers, or important in the respective research area. The aim is to provide a snapshot of some of the
most exciting work published in the various research areas of the journal.
We are pleased to announce the winner of the Electronics Young Investigator Award 2019, Dr. Juan C. Vasquez, a Professor at the Department of Energy Technology, Aalborg University.
Over the last 10 years, Prof. Vasquez has published over 180 papers in international top-tier journals and over 190 papers in international conferences on Microgrids research. His key contributions are based on control, operation, energy management, and deployment of AC–DC Microgrids and Energy Internet. He has been referenced over 14,681 times, and some of his articles have been cited more than 200 times, making a huge impact and acquiring high visibility in Microgrid and smart-grid research communities. Thanks to these achievements, he was recognized by Clarivate Analytics as a Highly Cited Researcher in 2017 and 2018. In 2016, Dr. Vasquez was selected among 18 AAU researchers to receive funding through an exclusive young talent management program, established as part of the initiative “Knowledge for the World”, for his project “The Energy Internet—Integrating Internet of Things into the Smart Grid”. Professor Vasquez is responsible of the AC Microgrid laboratory, the DC Microgrid Laboratory, and a newly established IoT Demonstration Microgrid Laboratory at the Department of Energy Technology, AAU. These proof-ofconcept laboratories constitute the basis for research and teaching inspired by Project-Based Learning (PBL) in the microgrids area, recognized worldwide.
Please join us in congratulating Professor Juan C. Vasquez for a well-deserved prize.
