Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Fixed wireless access (FWA) empowers network providers to provide ultra-high-speed connectivity to suburban and rural areas, serving home and business installations where the deployment of fiber is very costly. FWA is an efficient and scalable alternative to wired connections. Fifth-generation (5G) networks accelerate FWA. 5G network communication is one of the key enabling technologies of the future and current information society. 5G network systems will provide users with multi-Gbps data speed and allow new apps to operate on mobile devices. Distributed machine learning (DML) will become a crucial aspect of future 5G networks. Communication latency and network bandwidth will no longer be barriers for mobile users on 5G networks. Almost any mobile device can participate in distributed learning, and the availability issue of distributed learning can be solved. Additionally, the DML solves the limitations of computer memory. However, model safety and security have become a challenge. The distributed learning system is vulnerable to attacks while updating model parameters and aggregating gradients among multiple learning participants.

Recent developments in blockchain technologies, including distributed ledger frameworks, consensus algorithms, intelligent contract engines, development libraries, and interfaces with other systems, are creating new types of services that were previously impossible. Network design and management applications for these emerging technologies are challenging tasks. This Special Issue aims to solicit state-of-the-art research on the secure blockchain-based computing framework of DML in a 5G network. We invite researchers to submit their original research about the framework development, deployments, opportunities, and problems using secure blockchain-based DML in a 5G network.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
