Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The new wave of urbanization, ever more stringent environmental protection standards, and high pressure to improve the safety and efficiency of human life and travel service have made the development of a smarter and more convenient city one of the fundamental societal challenges of the next decade. Modern wireless communication technologies have been envisioned to enable key technologies to enhance city efficiency, reduce incidents, and improve the safety and convenience of human life and travel service in smart cities.

The seamless integration and convergence of wireless communication networks in urban transportation will face several technical, economic, and regulatory challenges. It is paramount to design wireless communication systems that enable participants and producers of the IoV operations to exchange information in real-time and with high reliability. In addition, it is crucial to improve the dependability and resilience of the IoV network and design a novel wireless communication architecture for data transmission between transportation participants.

This Special Issue aims to present a collection of high-quality research papers on recent developments, current research challenges, and future directions in the use of networking and communications to realize the IoV networks that are safer, more intelligent, and more efficient. Authors are encouraged to submit theoretical and practical studies relevant to the IoV in smart cities.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Communications and networking in the IoV;
  • Intelligent and efficiency computing in the IoV;
  • Security, privacy, and trust communication in the IoV;
  • MEC networking design and optimization in the IoV;
  • Beyond 5G/6G network wireless technologies in the IoV;
  • Ultra-low latency communications and ultra-reliable wireless communications in the IoV;
  • Dependability design and improvement of wireless communications in the IoV;
  • Resilience design and improvement of wireless communications and networking in the IoV;
  • Energy-efficient methods of wireless communications in the IoV;
  • Applications and services with wireless communications in the IoV.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
