Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Social units compete for scarce resources just as individuals do. This Special Issue addresses ways in which efficiency can be increased within units (teams, groups, municipalities, and nations) to increase external competitiveness, internal welfare, or both. The issue is eclectic regarding methods; both empirical papers (lab and field experiments) and theory papers are suitable. Incentives examined can be material incentives, psychological incentives, cultural and social norms, or a combination thereof. The equilibrium can either serve as a prediction or as a benchmark against which off-equilibrium behavior is evaluated.

The Special Issue’s topics, some of them currently emerging, represent areas where ongoing research is expanding our understanding of how game theory can contribute to increasing a social unit’s internal welfare and external competitiveness. These topics involve conceptual, theoretical, experimental, and computational challenges, ultimately helping to better understand within and between group interactions and inform policy to increase welfare and competitiveness.
