Gout, Hyperuricemia and Crystal Associated Disease Network (G-CAN)
Founded in 2015 by Drs. Robert Terkeltaub and Hyon Choi, G-CAN is an international volunteer society dedicated to creating research and education initiatives to fill the gout, urate biology and crystal-associated diseases knowledge gap. With more than 200 members worldwide from a variety of disciplines, we are one of the largest organizations furthering research in the field of gout and crystal-associated diseases. G-CAN employs a variety of platforms to expand and share knowledge while engaging members and researchers in the field: Our annual research symposium, our networks for mentoring and international collaborations that foster broader interdisciplinary advances in the field and most recently, this journal.
The G-CAN platform includes an annual international research symposium with more than 200 attendees, 25–30 annual abstract submissions by early career investigators, an annual quartet of “Year in Review” sessions for developments in the field, and a total of 30–40 presenters annually. G-CAN has an internet presence with a website and an active and engaged social media following on Twitter (@G_CANgout).
As one of the largest organizations furthering research in the field of gout and crystal-associated diseases, the Gout, Hyperuricemia and Crystal Associated Disease Network (G-CAN) has generated this first-of-its-kind journal focused on quality, peer-reviewed, articles on gout and crystal deposition disease. The entirely open access and online only nature of this peer reviewed journal reflects the commitment of G-CAN society to publish high quality, novel, and original work in the fields of gout, urate homeostasis, and crystal arthropathy.
