Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The Special Issue “Open Geospatial Platforms for Pollution Risk Assessment” is now open for submissions concerning the application of computing platforms in the storage and processing of geospatial data for assessing pollution risk.

The detection of contaminants and determination of their distribution and concentration in soils and the atmosphere is crucial, since contaminants have adverse effects on human well-being, biodiversity, and the environment. Therefore, the estimation of pollution hazards, exposure, and risk appear crucial to ensuring the health and safety of individuals as well as of ecosystems. This can be achieved through the application of new technologies, such as open computing platforms suitable for handling huge volumes of geospatial data and for automizing the procedures as well as for presenting the outcomes more effectively. They have totally transformed the geospatial world, showing great potential in risk reduction purposes and, consequently, they also appear essential in treating pollution risk.

This Special Issue focuses on the potentialities of innovative geospatial computing platform to tackle this topic and to help governments in selecting optimal strategies for mitigating pollution risk. We invite you to submit original and unpublished articles describing recent advances in these disciplines or in closely related areas.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. ISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
