Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Background: CFD simulations and fluid–structure interaction have increased the possibility of exploring several designs with a virtual approach. The use of CFD and FSI helps to identify critical issues in the design phase and allows them to be corrected.

Aim and scope: The main scope is to publish new research in the field of marine engineering that uses CFD and fluid–structure approaches to find new solutions for environmental sustainability. The second objective is to increase the speed of reviewing and publishing and to disseminate new developments in this field without costs and in an open-access way.

History: Techniques such as CFD and FSI are highly trusted today. In recent years, the improvement in computer power alongside the increase in the number of new mathematical methods have helped researchers to find new solutions to increase the energy efficiency of ships, increase the hydrodynamics performances of all objects that interact with the sea and also to explore new wave energy conversion methods. 

Cutting-edge research: The research needs to be focused on the application of CFD and FSI, e.g., in approaches exploring new designs in the field of ocean engineering with the aim to decrease environmental impacts.

What kind of papers we are looking for: The Guest and Co-Guest Editors of this Special Issue encourage the submission of manuscripts that focus on recent developments and the most important challenges in the areas of ocean engineering and hydrodynamic performances though CFD simulations and fluid–structure interaction. Topics eligible for publication are as follows:

  • Ship resistance, propulsion and maneuvering;
  • CFD application to simulate cavitation;
  • Fluid–structure interaction for offshore structures, coastal structures and floating wind;
  • CAE approach for hull shape optimization;
  • Machine learning approach for hull shape optimization;
  • New methods to model multiphase problems (SPH, CFD and potential flow);
  • Fluid–structure interaction for noise, vibration and wave loads;
  • Fluid–structure interaction for wave energy converters.
