Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Maritime transport is one of the most important marine industries that play a prominent role in the socio-economic development of most coastal regions all over the world. Shipping undertakes more than 70% of international trade and provides huge promotions to regional and global economies. On the other side, as the important nodes in logistics networks, ports behave as the crucial engines for regional economies and social development. In recent decades, there has been rapid progress in the maritime industry in terms of new technologies, ideas, approaches and operation modes. Meanwhile, some global issues, e.g., climate change, the COVID-19 pandemic and the world economy recession, propose more challenges to the sustainability of the maritime industry. In order to better understand the interactions between the maritime industry and regional development in the new dynamic environment, it is necessary to place more attention on the related research topics.
This Special Issue (SI) aims to promote comprehensive and rigorous theoretical and empirical studies which examine the relationship and co-development of the maritime industry and regional economies. Potential topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
- The latest developments in marine technology;
- Green maritime Port governance;
- Smart ports;
- emerging technology applications in the maritime industry and their regional output;
- Case studies.
