Dear Colleagues,
When each micro-organism is studied individually, it impacts plant development and health through its pathological, beneficial, or neutral potential. However, analyses of the microbiome show that various micro-organisms, such as fungi and bacteria, colonize the same plant organs and, therefore, have multiple interactions with each other.
This Special Issue focuses on the relationships between micro-organisms and their impact on plant growth. For example, interactions between two micro-organisms, such as bacteria–fungi or fungi–fungi, are examined from the point of view of interactions that lead either to growth inhibition and the destruction of one of the interacting micro-organisms or to the growth of both micro-organisms. In the first case, if the micro-organism destroyed is a plant pathogen, this can lead to plant protection, commonly known as biocontrol. In the other case, it promotes plant pathogen attack. In this Special Issue, we look at bacterial–fungal interactions, which range, for example, from synergy to antagonism, depending on the bacterial and fungal species involved. Studies on all types of microbial interactions are welcome.
