Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Photodetectors (PDs) are devices that can transform optical signals into electrical signals, playing a significant role in versatile fields, such as optical communication, imaging, and sensing. Over the past decade, extensive research has been devoted to developing high-performance and self-powered PDs. Various self-powered PDs have been developed, such as p-n junctions, Schottky junctions, and photoelectrochemical-type (PEC) PDs. As emerging self-powered PDs, photoelectrochemical-type (PEC) PDs have attracted increasing attention due to their simple fabrication processes and high sensitivity. PEC PDs involve both physical processes (photoelectric effect) and chemical processes (interfacial electrochemical reaction), providing more strategies for tuning photoresponse. However, the performance of self-powered PDs still require further improvement in order to satisfy versatile application scenarios. This Special Issue, entitled “Novel Materials and Device Structures for Self-Powered Photodetectors”, will focus on state-of-the-art works in developing new materials (composites), device structures, and strategies for designing high-performance self-powered PDs with high photoresponse, fast response speeds, and ample stability. This Special Issue receives original papers or reviews on experiments and theoretical simulation.

In order to promote the development of self-powered PDs, I cordially invite you to contribute to this SI.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
