Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue, “Biomaterials for Oral and Dental Tissue Engineering”, which is meant to highlight emerging, cutting-edge approaches designed to address the reconstruction of this important anatomic region. Oral and Dental applications are an ideal proving ground for new biomaterials for many reasons: 1. reconstructive procedures of the oral cavity are undertaken thousands of times per day across the United States, highlighting the high demand. These mostly occur in the office setting, not requiring the services of an operating room team. 2. There is a general lack of standardization of reconstructive materials and techniques, wherein there is room to improve and develop “gold standards”. 3. Surgical reconstructions are often considered minor, involving a limited segment of the oral cavity, lessening the risk of failure and providing a greater margin of error in the application of novel materials and methods. 4. The head and neck region has a rich blood supply, improving the survivability of any reconstructive attempt. 5. Lastly, materials and techniques perfected in the oral and dental region can have wide applicability to solve reconstructive challenges for the whole body.

Please join me by contributing an article of your best work and advancing this area of tissue engineering.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
