Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Much attention has been paid to nanomaterials due to their unique optical, chemical, physical, mechanical, thermal, and structural properties. Many methods have been developed in order to produce nanomaterials of defined properties. Among them, one promising class of methods is the application of different plasma sources. Atmospheric pressure plasmas (APPs) can be ignited by applying direct, alternating, radio frequency current or microwave power, and can be operated in gases, in or in-contact with, the liquids and so on. The possibilities of applying APPs in the production of nanomaterials are related to the many species that are generated during APPs including: electrons, ions, UV radiation, metastable excited atoms, reactive species and so one. APP-based nanomaterials synthesis methods are innovative tools due to their simplicity and low-cost. They also overcome limits related to the usage of additional chemical compounds in the production and formation of nanomaterials.

The presented Special Issue is dedicated to studies related to APP and the development of new APP-based methods for the production of nanomaterials, as well as to their further application in different fields such as microbiology, agricultural engineering, medicine, environmental protection, and so on. The topics of publications in this Special Issue are listed below:

  • Synthesis of nanomaterials by different plasma sources
  • Application of plasma methods for modification of nanomaterials
  • The investigation of plasma processes during the production and/or modification of nanomaterials
  • Application of nanomaterials produced by plasma method in microbiology, agricultural engineering, analytical chemistry, medicine, environmental protection, and so on
  • CAPP-based polymerization-driven immobilization of nanoparticles into polymeric matrices

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
