Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The up-to-date literature includes studies regarding metal matrix composite performance, applications, and systematic developments. Overall, from a broad range of engineering materials, metal-based composites are one of the most cost-effective and dominant antiwear coating materials, combining metallic matrix properties with the added benefit of strengthening the phase addition. Even though the literature on the subject explains the general factors that influence material properties, applications, and antideterioration properties, the continuous development of metal-based structures and their fabrication, processing, and treatment technology demand systematic reports on advances in the wear properties of metallic and ceramic materials.

This Special Issue focuses on the applications and performance of MMC (metal matrix composite) materials, such as weld hardfacing, thermally sprayed deposits, bulk composites, additive-manufactured metal structures, etc. In addition, papers focusing on operational performance improvements via microstructural property modifications and the deposition of novel wear-resistant coatings onto metal-based substrates are of interest. We hope that the scientific papers submitted to this Special Issue provide novel knowledge in materials science and mechanical engineering.

This Special Issue is open for submissions and welcomes original research contributions and review articles highlighting recent advances and future directions in the effect of microstructures on the wear, corrosion, and erosion behavior of metal-based composite coatings and components.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Metals is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
