Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Molecular diagnostics has been widely used in clinical testing for detecting and quantifying disease-specific nucleic acids, proteins, and other molecular biomarkers to facilitate minimally invasive diagnostics of diseases. Recent advances in micro/nanofluidics, from automated sample preparation techniques to rapid, ultrasensitive, highly multiplexed biomolecular assays, have shed light on emerging molecular diagnostics that is Affordable, Sensitive, Specific, User-friendly, Rapid and robust, Equipment-free and Deliverable to end-users (ASSURED). The values of micro/nanofluidics in molecular diagnostics have never been as important as in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, in which rapid, accurate, and point-of-care testing is essential to the containment of the virus. Accordingly, this Special Issue seeks to showcase research papers, short communications, and review articles that focus on the following topics: (1) novel micro/nanofluidic sample preparation techniques for the purification and extraction of molecular biomarkers; (2) novel micro/nanofluidic immunoassays, nucleic acid amplification techniques, and other biosensing techniques; (3) manufacturing and integration techniques for automated, robust, and low-cost micro/nanofluidic devices in the context of molecular diagnostics.
