Dear Colleagues,
CNS diseases are related to abnormalities in the structure and/or functioning of the brain and spinal cord that might result in a variety of neurological and psychiatric abnormalities. Possible reasons for these disorders include injuries, ischemia, inflammatory processes of nervous tissue, neurotransmission disorders, oxidative stress, etc. CNS diseases cause significant deteriorations in patients' lives and, therefore, there is a high demand to discover novel therapies and neuroprotective compounds for their prophylaxis and therapy.
Plants offer a rich variety of compounds that can be used as therapeutics also in the treatment of CNS diseases. Neuroprotective properties of a large number of these compounds have been confirmed in preclinical studies employing experimental animal models, and their mechanisms of action have been identified based on biochemical and molecular studies. Plant-derived therapeutics have been used since ancient times and they have contributed to the development of drugs used today to treat a broad range of nervous system diseases.
The main aim of the Special Issue, “Pharmacological Activity of Natural Products in Central Nervous System Disorders”, is to present novel data on the pharmacological properties of plant-derived products (i.e., extracts and their ingredients), which might have potential implications in the treatment of CNS disorders. Selected mechanisms of action of the tested products should be described in the submitted papers. Preclinical studies from in vitro tests and animal models will be considered. Submission of original papers, reviews and short communications is encouraged.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Molecules is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
