10th Anniversary

The year 2024 marks the 10th anniversary of Photonics, a peer-reviewed open access journal on the science and technology of optics and photonics. With an Impact Factor of 2.1 (JCR - Q2 (Optics)), a CiteScore of 2.6, the journal is covered in Scopus, SCIE (Web of Science), Inspec, CAPlus/ SciFinder, and other databases. Photonics has published more than 4000 papers from more than 17000 authors. More than 7000 reviewers have reviewed for the journal at least once. We equally value the contributions made by our editors, authors, and reviewers.

In honor of the journal's 10th anniversary, we are reflecting on our past accomplishments and embarking on an exciting new chapter. We invite you to join us in celebrating this milestone for our journal and to explore the content we have prepared for you below.

The inaugural issue was released. Photonics was published as a quarterly journal. Prof. Dr. Nelson Tansu was appointed as the Founding Editor-in-Chief.



Photonics was covered by the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI—Web of Science).

Photonics was indexed in Scopus, starting from Volume 1.

Photonics received its first CiteScore of 1.96 (2017 Scopus data).

Photonics was covered by the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE—Web of Science).



Photonics’s CiteScore (2019 Scopus data) was 2.90.

Photonics received its first Impact Factor: 2.140, ranking 48/97 (Q2) in the category ‘OPTICS’.

Prof. Dr. Sergio Fantini was nominated as Associate Editor by the Editor-in-Chief.

Photonics changed to a monthly publication schedule.

The year 2024 marked the 10th anniversary of Photonics and the journal organized the 1st International Electronic Conference on Photonics.

Photonics 2023 Young Investigator Award—Winner Announced

We are delighted to announce the winner of the Photonics 2023 Young Investigator Award—Dr. Michele Cotrufo. Additionally, we want to thank the award committee for their excellent work in the difficult task of selecting a winner from such excellent candidates, as well as everyone who participated in this award and helped ensure it was a huge success.

As the winner, he will receive CHF 1000, an electronic certificate, and an offer to publish a paper free of charge before the end of 2024 in Photonics (ISSN: 2304-6732) after peer review.
