Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to publish this exciting new Special Issue on optical and quantum communications.

Optical and quantum communication over both fiber and free space has been a great success in the field of photonics. The research community has demonstrated a strong impetus to push the technology towards its limit. The achievements of optical and quantum communication have exerted significant influence over the way we transfer and process data. Now, we are facing the thriving era of 6G, artificial intelligence, and emerging data-driven applications that require further research and development of optical and quantum communication technology. Technological advancements in terms of novel photonics integrated devices, optical fibers, transceivers, and data processing algorithms have brought new breakthrough in both system architecture and performance. Quantum communication technologies such as quantum key distribution and quantum entanglement distribution have established an intriguing playground for exploiting various photonics technologies.

This Special Issue aims to publish original research on advances in optical and quantum communications. Both research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

1) Fiber-based optical and quantum communication systems;

2) Space and underwater optical and quantum communications;

3) Machine learning-assisted optical and quantum communications;

4) Optical and quantum communication-related devices;

5) Quantum key distribution systems;

6) Non-linear transmission systems;

7) Low-complexity coherent optical transmission systems;

8) Optical and quantum access networks;

9) Demonstrations of optical and quantum communication in AI and 6G applications.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Photonics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
