Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Quantum optics plays a pivotal role in the intersection of quantum physics and optics, exploring the fundamental aspects of light–matter interactions at the quantum level. This Special Issue aims to delve into the diverse realms of quantum optics, ranging from foundational research to cutting-edge technological applications, with a focus on bridging theoretical insights with practical innovations.

We invite researchers, scientists, and experts in the field of quantum optics to contribute original research articles, reviews, and perspectives that shed light on recent advancements and future directions in this rapidly evolving field. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, quantum information processing, quantum communication, quantum sensing, quantum imaging, quantum computing, and quantum metrology.

This Special Issue will encompass a diverse array of topics in the field of quantum optics, spanning both theoretical and experimental research. Contributions are encouraged to delve into the interdisciplinary aspects of quantum optics and examine its ramifications for a multitude of technological applications, thereby paving the path for revolutionary advancements in quantum technology.

To further elaborate on the scope of this quantum optics Special Issue, topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Fundamental Theoretical Studies: Including investigations into non-classical states in quantum optics, quantum descriptions of light–matter interactions, and quantum measurements in optical systems.
  2. Novel Materials and Devices in Quantum Optics: Exploring the applications of new optical materials in quantum optics and the design, fabrication, and performance analysis of related optical devices.
  3. Applications of Quantum Optics in Information Processing: Focusing on quantum information encoding, transmission, storage, and decoding, as well as the use of light-based quantum computing and communication technologies.
  4. Optical Imaging and Sensing: Introducing the latest developments in optical imaging and sensing technologies in biomedical and other fields, including optical imaging techniques, optical biosensors, and optical sensor technologies.
  5. Applications of Quantum Optics in Communication and Security: Investigating the use of quantum communication technologies like quantum teleportation and quantum key distribution for enhancing communication security and privacy protection.
  6. Quantum Metrology and Precision Measurements: This area focuses on the use of quantum optical states and phenomena to enhance the precision of measurements beyond classical limits. It includes studies of quantum-enhanced timing, frequency standards, and gravitational wave detection using quantum optics techniques.
  7. Photonics Integration and Quantum Optic Circuits: Addressing the integration of quantum optical systems on chip-scale devices, this field explores how photonic circuits can manipulate quantum states of light for applications in scalable quantum computing and complex quantum simulation tasks.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Photonics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
