Liturgy between Tradition and Contemporary Practice

Dear Colleagues,

Studies of ritual practices in theology, ethnography and religion are gaining importance. Liturgy is not only a manifestation of the life of church communities, but has great anthropological and theological significance. The study of contemporary and historical liturgical traditions and forms is a testimony to the cultural and social transformation of society and its reflection of basic human values. In this Special Issue, we want to focus on liturgical themes that cover the following topics: liturgy and therapy; the importance of ritualizing our life, liturgical experience during the COVID-19 pandemic; liturgy in the digital world; liturgy and synodality; the meaning of celebration; liturgy and ministeriality; liturgy and gender. A large part of the outlined topics are interdisciplinary. This Special Issue will try to both reflect on the current state of research in the field and propose new directions of liturgical development with regard to ecclesiastical and social changes. It will serve liturgists to present their current study and research results, which will be in the form of individual thematic contributions or personal reflections and proposals.

• Liturgy and synodality;
• Anthropological and symbolic meaning of celebration;
• Liturgy and ministeriality in the church;
• The position of women in the liturgy and their service;
• Liturgy and gender;
• Celebrating the liturgy in small communities, minority groups and the LGBT community.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a double-blind peer-review process. Religions is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
