Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Despite its continuous development, remote sensing technology often encounters challenges that impact the interpretation and analysis of images. Two of these challenges—mixed pixels caused by inadequate spatial resolution and the difficulties encountered in obtaining time-intensive, high-spatial-resolution images—can be addressed using sub-pixel mapping (SPM) and spatiotemporal fusion (STF) technologies, respectively. Mixed pixels occur when a single pixel contains a mixed spectrum from multiple land cover classes; this is a common issue in many remote sensing images that considerably impacts their interpretation and analysis. SPM technology provides a solution to this problem. It reconstructs the spatial details inside mixed pixels, thereby improving the observation scale of remote sensing images. On the other hand, obtaining time-intensive, high-spatial-resolution remote sensing images is often difficult due to the impact of clouds and the limitations of sensor technology. This poses implications for tasks that require the land surface to be constantly monitored. STF technology, which involves the fusion of multisource remote sensing images, can overcome this problem. By integrating these two technologies, we can enhance the quality and utility of remote sensing images, making them more effective tools for the monitoring and analysis of the land surface.

This Special Issue aims to collect studies concerning sub-pixel mapping or spatiotemporal-fusion-related methods and applications.

This Special Issue aims to publish high-quality research papers and informative review articles that address emerging trends in sub-pixel mapping and spatiotemporal fusion. Original and relevant contributions that are not currently under review in another journal or conference are welcome. We look forward to receiving your contributions.
