Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Following the successful release of our previous Special Issue, we are excited to announce the second edition, which aims to attract new and innovative manuscripts.

Many infrastructures, applications, and services that shape our lifestyle depend on the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) technologies. Although GNSS technology is widespread, several challenges still prevent robust and reliable navigation, particularly in constrained environments or in the presence of interferences. Despite these limitations, users increasingly rely on GNSS-derived positions and timing, demanding better accuracy, stringent integrity, and extended availability in several application domains. To meet these demands, auxiliary technologies such as Signals of Opportunity (SoP) and the fusion of complementary low-Earth orbit (LEO) PNT signals are providing innovative approaches and solutions worldwide, also paving the way to integrated navigation and communication services. Additionally, the use of GNSS in near-Earth and cislunar space is gaining momentum, with novel concepts being defined by national and international space agencies. In order to support such a new race, a growing call is being made for groundbreaking signal design, optimized modulation schemes, and system engineering aspects to drive future PNT systems beyond terrestrial use.

This Special Issue aims to present advances in GNSS signal processing, including algorithms for fast acquisition and robust tracking in harsh terrestrial and space environments; algorithms for interference monitoring, detection, classification, and localization; new algorithms for GNSS/INS/visual sensors data fusion in contexts such as autonomous driving and guidance navigation and control systems; and the hybridization of GNSS-based systems with terrestrial Signals of Opportunity, such as modern cellular and LEO mega-constellation communication signals. Additionally, we are interested in orbital-filter-powered Bayesian state estimation algorithms and high-sensitivity signal acquisition and tracking loops. We welcome the submission of both preliminary and structured results of theoretical or experimental analyses, studies on using authenticated civilian signals to prevent spoofing, and pioneering studies of LEO signals proposed to augment positioning and navigation.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
