Background: The World Health Organization (WHO) defines health promotion as the process of enabling individuals to gain control over and improve their health. This shifts the focus from lifestyle choices to broader social determinants of health, requiring involvement from healthcare, authorities, industry, civil society, and the media. Civil society engagement in health initiatives offers benefits such as empowerment, service delivery, flexibility, policy participation, and credibility. However, identifying specific health promotion actions for civil society organizations (CSOs) is challenging. The lack of assessment tools for CSOs hinders evaluation and improvement. Objective: To develop a tool, ‘PromoACTIVA-SC’, to assess CSOs’ health promotion practice by identifying essential actions that constitute the health promotion process. Methods: ‘PromoACTIVA-SC’ was developed through documentary analysis and validated by experts. CSOs’ members participated in cognitive interviews for comprehensibility, and the tool was pilot tested for administration and Likert scale evaluation. Results: The final questionnaire, consisting of 8 phases and 40 items, demonstrated good content validity. Its use can help to map CSOs’ practices and identify areas needing improvement. CSOs can use it for self-assessment and in collaborative health promotion and disease prevention efforts. Conclusions: ‘PromoACTIVA-SC’ is the first tool designed to assess civil society’s role in the health promotion process. Its future use will reveal the extent to which civil society organizations actively participate in health promotion. It can also be used to promote CSOs’ involvement in health policy and administration, enhancing public health outcomes through collaborative, cross-sectoral efforts. Full article

Accurate workload prediction is essential for proactive resource allocation in large-scale Content Delivery Networks (CDNs), where traffic patterns are highly dynamic and geographically distributed. This paper introduces a CDN-tailored prediction and autoscaling framework that integrates statistical and deep learning models within an adaptive feedback loop. The framework is evaluated using 18 months of real traffic traces from a production multi-tier CDN, capturing realistic workload seasonality, cache–tier interactions, and propagation delays. Unlike generic cloud-edge predictors, our design incorporates CDN-specific features and model-switching mechanisms to balance prediction accuracy with computational cost. Seasonal ARIMA (S-ARIMA), Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), Bidirectional LSTM (Bi-LSTM), and Online Sequential Extreme Learning Machine (OS-ELM) are combined to support both short-horizon scaling and longer-term capacity planning. The predictions drive a queue-based resource-estimation model, enabling proactive cache–server scaling with low rejection rates. Experimental results demonstrate that the framework maintains high accuracy while reducing computational overhead through adaptive model selection. The proposed approach offers a practical, production-tested solution for predictive autoscaling in CDNs and can be extended to other latency-sensitive edge-cloud services with hierarchical architectures. This document explores the concept of Learning Styles (LSs) and their implications for Adaptive Learning Systems (ALSs). It begins by defining LSs as distinct patterns of behavior and thought that influence how individuals process information, drawing on widely recognized theories in the field of LSs. The text highlights the importance of recognizing diverse learning preferences to enhance knowledge construction. It discusses the role of ALSs in personalizing educational experiences by adapting content delivery and recommendation to align with an individual LS. The document also addresses significant challenges in the application of LSs, including a lack of consensus on their validity, insufficient pedagogical perspectives, and potential overemphasis that may limit student exposure to varied learning experiences. The core of the text lies in the pedagogical characterization of Felder–Silverman Learning Styles Model (FSLSM), which has been widely used in ALSs, so that future designers could have a didactic basis to relate digital resources to profiles. Background/Objectives: This study aimed to develop a nanostructured lipid carrier (NLC) system incorporating a catechin-rich Vanda coerulea extract for topical cosmetic applications and to evaluate its physicochemical properties, release behavior, and skin retention performance. Methods: Blank NLCs were prepared using hot emulsification followed by sonication, with glyceryl monostearate, caprylic triglyceride, Poloxamer® 188, and Tween® 80 as the formulation components. NLCs with varying solid-to-liquid lipid ratios were developed while maintaining a constant total lipid content of 5% w/w. The formulations were characterized based on their particle size, polydispersity index (PDI), zeta potential, and physical stability, including stability after a heating–cooling cycle test. The effect of ultrasonication duration was also evaluated. The optimized NLC was then loaded with a V. coerulea extract and evaluated for in vitro release and skin retention using catechin as a marker. Results: The NLC with a particle size of 235.5 ± 29.8 nm, a narrow PDI range of 0.382 ± 0.090, and a strong zeta potential of −29.8 ± 0.3 mV was selected for the incorporation of the V. coerulea extract. The extract-loaded NLC exhibited a sustained release over 24 h, significantly different from the V. coerulea extract solution (p < 0.05). Skin retention studies revealed that the NLC achieved approximately twice the catechin retention compared to the solution at the 1 h time point (1.30 ± 0.01% vs. 0.68 ± 0.03% w/w). Conclusions: The V. coerulea-extract-loaded NLC demonstrated favorable physicochemical properties, sustained release behavior, and enhanced skin retention. These findings support its potential as a promising topical delivery system for antioxidant-rich botanical extracts in cosmetic applications. Full article

With persistent racial inequities, cultural adaptations of health programs can promote equitable maternal mental health. Despite the intersecting identities of Black mothers with preterm birth combined with racial discrimination, previous mental health programs in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) are void of the sociocultural context that perpetuates racially motivated care. This study uses a two-round Delphi process to gather knowledge on the cultural appropriateness and content validity of the adapted Mothers and Babies Online Course, a United States Prevention Service Task Force-recommended intervention for managing mental health symptoms in pregnant and new mothers for Black mothers with preterm birth. The Black feminist theory and cultural adaptation strategies were used to conceptualize the adaptation process. Opinions were solicited from Black mothers and professionals based on predetermined criteria. Eleven participants, comprising eight mothers and three professionals, participated in Round One. Of these, only one professional did not participate in Round Two, totaling 10 participants who participated in Round Two. The participants rated the adapted program—eMB 4 Blackmamas, positively, and four themes emerged, substantiating the importance of culturally responsive mental health. The themes also offered additional feedback related to improving the program delivery. Including diverse stakeholders in mental health research offers unique and balanced insights into designing culturally appropriate programs to promote and protect Black maternal mental health in the NICU. Background/objectives: This study aimed to characterize the fatty acid (FA) profile of breast milk (BM) at 7 days (T7) and 1 month postpartum (T30) using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and to evaluate associations between maternal diet during pregnancy and BM FA composition. Methods: A prospective observational cohort study was conducted from March 2022 to October 2023, involving mothers grouped by gestational age at delivery (32 weeks, 32–36.6 weeks, and >37 weeks). Results: BM lipid profiles were generally similar across gestational groups, with notable differences at T7 in saturated fatty acids (SFAs), myristic acid, monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs), erucic acid, nervonic acid, and some FA ratios. At T30, differences persisted in SFAs, MUFAs, myristic acid, and MUFA/SFA. At T7, red meat intake was positively correlated with stearic acid; white meat intake was negatively associated with multiple FAs (including ω-3) but positively with linoleic. Cheese correlated positively with caprylic acid; milk negatively with pentadecylic acid; and dried fruit positively with MUFA. At T30, fish consumption was prevalently positively related to DHA, EPA, and Omega-3, while red meat was positively associated with arachidic acid and margaric acid and negatively with di-homo-gamma linolenic acid. White meat showed a predominantly negative correlation with DHA, EPA and MUFA. Milk intake showed both positive (i.e., caproic acid) and multiple negative FA associations. Cheese was positively associated with caprylic acid, while dried fruit intake was positively linked to oleic acid and MUFA. Conclusions: Despite stable total lipid content, gestational age influenced specific FA profiles. These shifts may reflect adaptive responses to neonatal metabolic and neurodevelopmental needs. Understanding such mechanisms could guide tailored nutritional strategies, especially for preterm infants. Full article

Despite widespread adoption, traditional Agile project management practices often fail to ensure successful delivery of enterprise-scale software projects. One key limitation lies in the absence of a conceptually defined structure for the various types of Agile activities and their interactions. As a result, Agile methodologies typically lack formal indicators for evaluating the semantic content and progress status of project activities. Although widely used tools for Agile project management, such as Atlassian Jira, capture operational data, project status assessment interpretation remains largely subjective—relying on the experience and judgment of managers and team members rather than on a formal knowledge model or well-defined semantic attributes. As Agile project activities continue to grow in complexity, there is a pressing need for a modeling approach that captures their causal structure in order to describe the essential characteristics of the processes and ensure systematic monitoring and evaluation of the project. The complexity of the corresponding model must correlate with the causality of processes to avoid losing essential properties and to reveal the content of causal interactions. To address these gaps, this paper introduces a causal Agile process model that formalizes the internal structure and transformation pathways of Agile activity types. To our knowledge, it is the first framework to integrate a recursive, causally grounded structure into Agile management, enabling both semantic clarity and quantitative evaluation of project complexity and progress. The aim of the article is, first, to describe conceptually different Agile activity types from a causal modeling perspective, its internal structure and information transformations, and, second, to formally define the causal Agile management model and its characteristics. Each Agile activity type (e.g., theme, initiative, epic, user story) is modeled using the management transaction (MT) framework—an internal model of activity that comprises a closed-loop causal relationship among management function (F), process (P), state attribute (A), and control (V) informational flows. Using this framework, the internal structure of Agile activity types is normalized and the different roles of activities in internal MT interactions are defined. An important feature of this model is its recursive structure, formed through a hierarchy of MTs. Additionally, the paper presents classifications of vertical and horizontal causal interactions, uncovering theoretically grounded patterns of information exchange among Agile activities. These classifications support the derivation of quantitative indicators for assessing project complexity and progress at a given point in time, offering insights into activity specification completeness at hierarchical levels and overall project content completeness. Examples of complexity indicator calculations applied to real-world enterprise application system (EAS) projects are included. Finally, the paper describes enhancements to the Jira tool, including a causal Agile management repository and a prototype user interface. An experimental case study involving four Nordic EAS projects (using Scrum at the team level and SAFe at the program level) demonstrates that the Jira tool, when supplemented with causal analysis, can reveal missing links between themes and initiatives and align interdependencies between teams in real time. The causal Agile approach reduced the total number of requirements by an average of 13% and the number of change requests by 14%, indicating a significant improvement in project coordination and quality. This study examines how different instructional media—face-to-face classes, live streaming, pre-recorded videos, and educational games—affect student learning outcomes in finance education. A sample of first-year economics students was assessed on their knowledge of basic financial principles before being randomly assigned to five groups. Four groups attended the same finance course delivered through different media formats, while a fifth group served as a control and received no instruction. After the course, all students completed a second (post-course) assessment. By comparing individual pre- and post-test results, as well as learning gains across the groups, we evaluated the effectiveness of each delivery method. The results show that all four instructional formats significantly improved financial knowledge compared to the control group. Among the media types, educational games proved to be an effective and reliable tool for delivering finance content. However, the differences in learning gains between face-to-face instruction, live streaming, and pre-recorded videos were not statistically significant. These findings indicate that a range of delivery models can be used effectively in finance education. The study contributes to current debates on cost-effective teaching strategies and supports evidence-based decisions on curriculum design in digitally transformed higher education environments after COVID-19. The systemic delivery of oxytetracycline (OTC) by trunk injection has emerged as a viable strategy to manage huanglongbing (HLB, also known as citrus greening), a bacterial disease devastating citrus production around the world. This study examines the efficacy of delivering OTC systemically into the trunk of young, HLB-affected citrus trees using a drill-based or a drill-free system to improve tree health and productivity. Two field trials were conducted in two commercial production sites in Florida. Trees were four years old at the start of the study and composed of ‘Valencia’ or ‘OLL-8’ sweet orange (Citrus sinensis) scion grafted on X-639 (C. reticulata × Poncirus trifoliata) rootstock. Injections were performed in spring or late summer/early fall in 2022 and 2023. Using the drill-based system, 0.79 g of OTC was administered into each tree, whereas 0.15 g or 0.3 g was administered using the drill-free system. Delivering a higher dose of OTC by drill-based injection increased fruit yield and improved juice quality more than delivering lower doses by drill-free injection, though responses varied between cultivars. Injections in late summer/early fall increased the juice total soluble solids content considerably more than injections in spring. However, fall injections resulted in OTC fruit residues exceeding the maximum allowed level. Trunk injury was more extensive when OTC was applied with the drill-free system than when it was applied with the drill-based system. Full article

Serious games are an important tool for education and training that offers interactive and powerful experience. However, a significant challenge lays with adapting a game to meet the specific needs of each player in real-time. The present paper introduces a framework to guide the development of serious games using a phased approach. The framework introduces a level of standardization for the game elements, scenarios and data descriptions, mainly to support portability, interpretability and comprehension. This standardization is achieved through semantic annotation and it is utilized by digital twins to support self-adaptation. The proposed approach describes the game environment using ontologies and specific semantic structures, while it collects and semantically tags data during players’ interactions, including performance metrics, decision-making patterns and levels of engagement. This information is then used by a digital twin for automatically adjusting the game experience using a set of rules defined by a group of domain experts. The framework thus follows a hybrid approach, combing expert knowledge with automated adaptation actions being performed to ensure meaningful educational content delivery and flexible, real-time personalization. Real-time adaptation includes modifying the game’s level of difficulty, controlling the learning ability support and maintaining a suitable level of challenge for each player based on progress. The framework is demonstrated and evaluated using two real-word examples, the first targeting at supporting the education of children with syndromes that affect their learning abilities in close collaboration with speech therapists and the second being involved with training engineers in a poultry meat factory. Preliminary, small-scale experimentation indicated that this framework promotes personalized and dynamic user experience, with improved engagement through the adjustment of gaming elements in real-time to match each player’s unique profile, actions and achievements. Using a specially prepared questionnaire the framework was evaluated by domain experts that suggested high levels of usability and game adaptation. Comparison with similar approaches via a set of properties and features indicated the superiority of the proposed framework. Full article

Supporting dementia carers is a global priority. As a Randomised Controlled Trial (RCT) (n = 352) of the Word Health Organization recommended, an internationally disseminated ‘iSupport’ e-health intervention was conducted, revealing no measurable benefits to the wellbeing of adult dementia carers. This process evaluation contributes original insights of the trial outcomes. Its aims were to ascertain the usability and acceptability of iSupport, participant engagement and adherence to iSupport, and contextual factors influencing its implementation and potential impact. The process evaluation followed a mixed-method design. The following data were collected from all participants randomised to iSupport (n = 175): (1) post-intervention evaluation questionnaire (n = 93) containing the 10-item System Usability Scale and bespoke items exploring acceptability, engagement, and perceived impact; (2) qualitative interviews (n = 52) with a sub-sample of participants who were purposively sampled according to age, scores on the outcome measures, and gender, as these interviews aimed to generate contextual detail and explanatory accounts; and (3) ‘Access’ data from the iSupport platform (n = 175). Descriptive statistics was used to report on the frequency of survey responses whilst a thematic analysis approach was followed to identify themes from the qualitative interview data. Data sets were analysed independently and then used with respect to one another in order to generate explanatory pathways related to the usability, acceptability, and the impact of iSupport. Despite good trial retention, 8.3% of participants (n = 32) did not spend any time on iSupport, and 54% (n = 94) spent between 30 min and 1.5 h. Factors driving this were the following: time constrains, method of delivery, and content characteristics. Positive impacts of iSupport were also described. Participants, including those with extensive caring experience, reported how iSupport had made them feel reassured, valued, and more able to ask for help. They also reported having an improved outlook on their caring role and on the needs and feelings of the person living with dementia. Research and practice should focus on exploring blended delivery, including self-directed and interactive components, such as regular contact with a health professional. These insights are critical for supporting the global implementation and adaptation of iSupport and offer valuable directions for future research. Full article

In embedding systems, protein–polysaccharide complexes can be utilized as wall materials to improve the bioavailability and activity of bioactive substances during delivery. This study used the antisolvent precipitation method to manufacture gliadin from highland barley distillers’ grains (HBDGG)–chitosan (Cs) nanoparticles. Using a variety of characterization techniques, the microstructure and interaction mechanism of HBDGG-Cs nanoparticles were examined, and their stability was assessed. In comparison to HBDGG, the results indicated that the addition of Cs enhanced the intensity of UV absorption and reduced the intensity of fluorescence. The content of α-helix dropped, while β-sheet, β-turn, and irregularly coiled content rose in the complexes. Hydrogen bonding, hydrophobic interactions, and electrostatic interactions were the primary forces that formed the nanoparticles. The contact force between HBDGG and Cs enhanced the stability of the nanoparticles. The particle size, polydispersity index (PDI), and zeta potential were 526.10 ± 11.78 nm, 0.20 ± 0.06, and 51.31 ± 0.66 mV, respectively, at a mass ratio of 1:1 between HBDGG and Cs. The nanoparticles exhibited good ionic, acid-base, and storage stability in addition to being widely distributed. This work offers a theoretical foundation for employing HBDGG-Cs nanoparticles to deliver bioactive components in food as well as a novel method for the comprehensive usage of HBDGG and Cs. Securing the acceptance of nature-based solutions (NbS) in urban greening is central for addressing current social, environmental, and climate-related challenges. To achieve this, participatory planning processes are increasingly encouraged in NbS projects. However, challenges often arise, as NbS and public participation are not always seamlessly compatible. Based on a cross-case, qualitative content analysis of project organizers’ experiences in seven urban NbS planning projects in Northern Europe, we unpack three social tensions that can limit the role of participatory NbS: (1) tensions between the openness or “closedness” of environmental and participatory objectives; (2) tensions between the increasing time demands for participatory NbS processes and limitations for largely project-based NbS delivery; and (3) tensions between the roles of expert and lay knowledge. We illustrate these tensions through our cases, showing the challenges that they create for project organizers, both in terms of implementing NbS projects, as well as the risks that they have for broader NbS and participatory goals. We use the experiences and learnings from our cases to suggest paths that can help planners balance these tensions and potentially lead to more inclusive and transformative NbS planning models. Introduction: Several factors can affect the composition of a mother’s milk, including the infant’s sex, gestational age, and single or twin delivery. We aimed to determine the association of the offspring’s sex with the macronutrient and energy content in preterm milk, during the first six weeks postpartum. Methods: This is a retrospective, monocentric, cohort study of lactating mothers who delivered before 37 weeks at a referral tertiary maternity. A mid-infrared human milk analyzer was used. Results: From 174 mothers, 360 milk samples were obtained. In the milk for singletons, the mature milk for females was significantly richer in total energy, fat, and protein than the milk for males; in advanced lactation, the milk for males was richer in protein than the milk for females. The transitional milk for male twins was significantly richer in fat and energy than the milk for male singletons; mature milk for male twins was richer in energy, carbohydrates, and protein than the milk for singletons. The mature milk for female twins during the fourth week postpartum was significantly richer in fat and total energy than the milk for singletons. Conclusions: This study provides information on how the number of delivered fetuses and the infant’s sex affects the composition of preterm milk. Full article

The present study aimed to optimize the extraction process for Rhodiola rosea root, then develop and optimize electrospun nanofiber systems containing extract to enhance the bioavailability of its active compounds, salidroside and rosarin. Using a Design of Experiments (DoE) approach, nanofibers were prepared with varying ratios of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and hydroxypropyl-cyclodextrins (HPαCD, HPβCD, HPγCD). The systems were comprehensively characterized in terms of morphology, content of active compounds, dissolution rate, permeability, mucoadhesion, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory activities. The results showed that nanofiber formulations significantly improved the dissolution and permeability of salidroside and rosarin compared to the crude extract. The antioxidant properties were notably enhanced, while the anti-inflammatory activity varied depending on composition. The formulation containing 3 g HPβCD and 2.5 g PVP demonstrated the most favorable balance of functional and technological properties. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and correlation matrix analysis confirmed that system composition strongly influenced the interrelationships between technological parameters and bioactivity. These findings indicate that electrospun nanofibers based on cyclodextrin-PVP matrices are a promising preclinical strategy for improving the delivery of Rhodiola rosea bioactives. Full article
