The efficient recovery of coalbed methane (CBM) is critically constrained by the inherent low permeability of coal reservoirs, a challenge predominantly attributed to mineral blockages within the pore-fracture structure. In this study, the deashing efficacy of several acid solutions (HCl, HNO3, HF, and CH3COOH) on bituminous coals from the Yushuwan (YSW) and Jiangna (JN) mines was initially assessed to determine the optimal acidizing system. Subsequently, the multi-scale evolution of pore-fracture structures and the fractal characteristics of coal samples treated with the optimized acids were systematically investigated. A multi-analytical approach, integrating scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) with microcrystalline peak-fitting, and low-temperature nitrogen gas adsorption (LT-N2GA), was employed to quantitatively elucidate the underlying transformation mechanisms. The experimental results indicate that HCl and HNO3 emerged as the most effective agents for the YSW and JN coals, respectively. Optimized acidification achieved significant reductions in ash content (specifically, an ash removal efficiency of 83.99% for HCl-treated YSW coal) through the selective dissolution of carbonate and clay minerals, thereby facilitating the exposure of the organic matrix and the induction of extensive dissolution pits and secondary fractures. Although the dissolution-induced collapse of mineral-supported fine pores led to a reduction in both total pore volume and BET specific surface area, the average pore diameter undergoes a substantial increase (e.g., nearly doubling from 9.0068 nm to 16.5126 nm for the JN coal). Furthermore, the reduction in Frenkel–Halsey–Hill (FHH) fractal dimensions (D1 and D2) indicates a decrease in pore-surface complexity and structural heterogeneity. These findings reveal that optimized acidification induces significant alterations in pore structure and mineral composition. The treatment facilitates the conversion of isolated pores into interconnected networks, accompanied by an increase in pore volume and a shift in pore size distribution toward larger dimensions. This research elucidates the mechanisms of mineral dissolution and pore expansion, providing a fundamental characterization of the microstructural evolution of coal in response to acid treatment. Sub-15 nm line structures are key building blocks for advanced device prototyping, nanoscale electrodes, and lithography templates such as etch/deposition masks. Although ultrahigh-voltage (≥100 kV) electron-beam lithography (EBL) can more readily achieve extremely small critical dimensions, its tool and infrastructure requirements limit widespread adoption in many laboratories. In contrast, 30 kV field-emission SEM platforms are far more accessible; however, resolution-limit patterning at 30 kV is more sensitive to beam current, exposure dose, and development conditions, motivating the establishment of a reproducible process flow and a well-defined process window. Here, we investigate the resolution limit of isolated lines using a Zeiss Gemini 460 system operated at 30 kV and an in-house pattern generator with 950 k PMMA C2 resist. To demonstrate device-level applicability, we develop a stable lift-off process, and all critical dimensions are evaluated on metal lines after e-beam evaporation and lift-off. By screening beam current and scanning dose to build the dose-to-size relationship, we show that reducing beam current significantly improves the achievable minimum line width. Under 35 pA, using CD ≤ 15 nm as the criterion for sub-15 nm window extraction, the usable dose range is [700, 804.3] µC/cm2, corresponding to a dose latitude of ~14.9%. The best performance is obtained at 700 µC/cm2, yielding a transferred metal line width of 13.85 nm after lift-off. This work provides a practical resolution-limit process flow and a quantitative process window for performing sub-15 nm patterning on accessible 30 kV platforms, supported by product-level lift-off validation. The timing of uranium mineralization in the Xiangshan ore field has long been controversial. Although various geochronometers have been applied by previous researchers, including pyrite Rb-Sr, mica Ar-Ar, and fluorite Sm-Nd, the results remain inconsistent and inconclusive. In recent years, the discovery of abundant Pb-Zn veins in the deeper parts of the Xiangshan ore field has further complicated the interpretation of its metallogenic history. In this study, abundant vein-type hydrothermal apatites closely associated with U-Pb-Zn polymetallic mineralization were identified in both uranium and Pb-Zn ore veins. Combined major-element Electron Probe Microprobe Analysis (EPMA), Laser Ablation-Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) U-Pb dating, and trace-element analysis were conducted on these apatite grains. The results suggest a mineralization age of 130.9 ± 1.1 Ma for the Shannan uranium deposit, which is consistent with the previously reported apatite U-Pb age of 131.3 ± 7.2 Ma from the Zoujiashan uranium deposit and coincides with the main pulse of volcanic-intrusive activity in the Xiangshan ore field (133–137 Ma). The deep Niutoushan Pb-Zn deposit suggests a younger mineralization age of 124.5 ± 1.3 Ma, which is consistent with a thermal event age of 125.6 Ma determined by zircon fission-track dating and the zircon LA-ICP-MS U-Pb age of late-stage granite porphyry (125.4 ± 1.0 Ma). These ages may constrain the timing of U-Pb-Zn polymetallic mineralization in the Xiangshan ore field. Both magmatic and hydrothermal apatites are classified as fluorapatite and exhibit similar chondrite-normalized rare earth element (REE) patterns. Compared with magmatic apatites, hydrothermal apatites are characterized by elevated Th, U, Ca, and Sr contents, depletion in light rare earth elements (LREEs), Mn, and Na, and distinctly lower Th/U ratios. On major-element variation diagrams, magmatic and hydrothermal apatites define coherent trends but display clear compositional differences related to their formation stages. Apatites from uranium ore veins show strongly negative Eu anomalies and weakly positive Ce anomalies, similar to magmatic apatites. In contrast, apatites from Pb-Zn ore veins display positive Eu anomalies and weakly negative Ce anomalies, with lower Mn and Ga contents and higher SO3 contents relative to both magmatic apatites and hydrothermal apatites from uranium ore veins. These features indicate that the ore-forming fluids during Pb-Zn mineralization were characterized by significantly higher oxygen fugacity than those during uranium mineralization and magmatism. Combined with published Sr isotopic data for the Xiangshan ore field, we propose that both uranium and Pb-Zn mineralization were genetically linked to the prolonged magmatic evolution of the deep volcanic-intrusive complex. The subsequent incursion of meteoric water modified the physicochemical conditions of the ore-forming system, particularly during the formation of the Pb-Zn mineralization. Full article

The increasing integration of photovoltaic (PV) power plants into electrical grids has raised concerns regarding the harmonic emissions caused by power electronic devices. Understanding the impact of large-scale PV plants on power systems is essential for ensuring grid stability and power quality. This study analyses and compares the current harmonic emissions of two inverters with identical topologies, installed in two different PV plants: a 35 MW plant in Spain and a 12 MW plant in Greece. The results reveal significant differences in the harmonic emission spectra between the two inverters, highlighting the influence of external conditions on the harmonic behaviour of PV inverters. These findings underscore the necessity of considering site-specific factors when assessing the harmonic impact of large-scale PV installations. Full article

With the continuous development of drilling and reservoir stimulation technologies, the drilling depth of enhanced geothermal system projects is getting deeper and deeper, and the surrounding rock stress of dry hot rock reservoirs is also increasing. Therefore, it has become an inevitable demand for geothermal exploitation to study the evolution law of fracture seepage characteristics of granite under high temperature and ultra-high pressure. To reveal the evolutionary patterns of seepage characteristics in deep-seated hot dry rock fractures, an independently developed ultra-high pressure rock triaxial mechanical testing system was employed to investigate the seepage characteristics of fractured granite under varying temperatures (25–150 °C) and triaxial stresses (50–100 MPa). The study explores the influence of temperature on the seepage characteristics of granite fractures under ultra-high triaxial stress conditions. The results indicate that: (1) In the temperature range of 25–125 °C, as the rock temperature increases, the permeability of the Specimens showed a continuously decreasing trend due to the effect of thermal expansion. (2) In the temperature range of 125–150 °C, as the rock temperature increases, the permeability continues to decrease under low triaxial stress (50 MPa). However, under high triaxial stress (75 MPa) and extremely high triaxial stress (100 MPa), the permeability shows a slight increase instead. This phenomenon is attributed to free surface dissolution. (3) Quantitative analysis of the mesoscopic morphological data of the rock fracture surfaces after testing, combined with SEM images from scanning electron microscopy, confirms that within the high-temperature range of 125–150 °C, the differing levels of triaxial stress determine the variation in the dominant mechanism governing the evolution of the Specimen fracture surfaces, which in turn leads to the divergence in the trend of their permeability changes. In response to the shortcomings still observed in polyethylene (PE)/ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA)/styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) composite modified bitumen regarding storage stratification and low-temperature performance, this paper further introduces furfural extract, elemental sulphur, stabilisers and Z-6036 into this ternary system, and employs orthogonal design to screen the additive ratios. Tests were conducted on conventional physical properties, rotational viscosity, dynamic shear rheology and bending beam rheology, focusing on the material’s temperature sensitivity, rheological behaviour, low-temperature creep resistance and phase characteristics. The modification effects were analysed using fluorescence microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and infrared spectroscopy. Compared with the control group composed of 4% PE, 4% EVA and 2% SBS, the samples obtained from the orthogonal design showed an increase in elongation at 5 °C ranging from 52.5% to 213.9%; the difference in softening points decreased from 35.2 °C to a minimum of 0.1 °C, indicating improved storage stability. The temperature sensitivity of all sample groups was reduced, with the optimal group achieving a VTS of −0.4413, representing a 46.7% improvement over the control group. At −12 °C, the m-values of all nine orthogonal samples were higher than those of the control group, with seven groups reaching m ≥ 0.3, indicating improved low-temperature stress relaxation capability. A comprehensive analysis of the experimental results indicates that the selected chemical additives are beneficial for optimising the dispersion state and compatibility of the SBS/PE/EVA ternary modified bitumen, whilst also balancing rheological properties and low-temperature crack resistance to a certain extent. Microscopic and spectroscopic analyses further suggest that internal interactions within the system have been enhanced and the phase distribution has become more uniform; however, the current evidence is insufficient to conclusively determine that a specific form of chemical cross-linking reaction has occurred. Alcoholic fermentation in winemaking is a complex bioprocess governed by physicochemical parameters such as temperature, density, pH, CO2 and redox potential, which critically affect yeast metabolism and wine quality. This review provides an integrated analysis of fermentative dynamics and emerging sensorization technologies, highlighting how their combined implementation enables real-time monitoring and advanced control in precision enology. Advances in conventional physicochemical sensors, spectroscopic techniques (NIR/MIR/UV-Vis) and non-conventional devices (e-noses, electronic tongues) integrated into IoT platforms enable continuous data acquisition, overcoming traditional manual sampling limitations. Predictive modeling, including kinetic models, machine learning approaches (e.g., Random Forest, XGBoost) and model predictive control (MPC/NMPC), supports anomaly detection, optimization of enological interventions and energy-efficient thermal management, while virtual sensors based on Kalman filters improve the estimation of non-measurable states (e.g., biomass, ethanol kinetics). Despite current challenges in calibration and interoperability, these innovations foster sustainable and reproducible winemaking under climate variability and pave the way for digital twins and semi-autonomous fermentation systems. Nonlinear state estimation in electric power systems remains challenging under mixed-measurement conditions due to the coexistence of legacy SCADA and PMU data with markedly different reliability levels, the sensitivity of classical Gauss–Newton-type methods to heterogeneous noise and numerical conditioning, and the increasing complexity of large-scale grids. To address these issues, this paper proposes ST-ResGAT, a spatio-temporal residual graph attention framework for nonlinear state estimation under heterogeneous sensing conditions. The proposed method models the problem on an augmented heterogeneous factor graph, employs a reliability-aware heterogeneous graph attention mechanism with residual propagation to adaptively fuse measurements of different quality, and further refines the graph-based estimates through a lightweight LSTM post-processing module that exploits short-term temporal continuity. All datasets are generated using pandapower on the IEEE 30-bus, IEEE 118-bus, and IEEE 1354-bus benchmark systems to ensure full reproducibility of the experimental pipeline. Experimental results show that the proposed method consistently achieves lower estimation errors than WLS, DNN, GAT, and PINN baselines across all three systems, while also exhibiting more compact node-level error distributions and stronger spatial consistency. Multi-seed ablation studies further indicate that residual propagation, reliability-aware attention, and temporal refinement play complementary roles across different system scales. Robustness experiments additionally show that, under random measurement exclusion as well as bias, Gaussian, and mixed corrupted-measurement settings, ST-ResGAT exhibits smooth and progressive degradation, including on the newly added large-scale IEEE 1354-bus benchmark. These results suggest that the proposed framework is a promising direction for data-driven state estimation under controlled mixed-measurement benchmark conditions. Full article

Controlling radical selectivity within nanoreactors remains a formidable challenge due to the inherent high reactivity and short half-lives of reactive species. Herein, we report a novel size-matched nanoconfinement strategy using a cobalt-nickel-layered double hydroxide (CoNi-LDH) nanoreactor for the highly selective generation and stabilization of sulfate radicals (SO4∙−) via piezoelectric activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS). By precisely tailoring the LDH interlayer spacing to 5.27 Å to match the kinetic diameter of SO4∙−, the nanoreactor effectively suppresses non-selective side reactions and radical quenching. Consequently, the CoNi-LDH achieves an unprecedented reaction rate (kobs = 0.40 min−1) and superior defluorination efficiency (78.9%) for fluoroquinolone antibiotics, significantly outperforming non-size-confined counterparts. Mechanistic insights reveal a synergistic pathway where piezo-generated hot electrons, mediated by Ni sites, accelerate the Co2+/Co3+ redox cycle to ensure long-term catalytic stability. The robustness of this nanoconfined system is further demonstrated by its exceptional tolerance to complex water matrices and its practical operability in a continuous-flow reactor. This study provides a pioneering approach for spatial radical control at the nanoscale to achieve efficient and targeted environmental remediation. Full article

The study presents a comprehensive first-principles investigation of the structural, electronic, and magnetic properties of rocksalt scandium nitride (ScN) and its Cr- and Mn-doped derivatives using spin-polarized density-functional theory within the GGA + U (UCr = 3.5 eV, UMn = 2.7 eV) and HSE06 frameworks. Pristine ScN crystallizes in the cubic Fm3m structure and exhibits narrow-gap semiconducting behavior, with an indirect band gap of 0.82 eV obtained from hybrid-functional calculations, in excellent agreement with reported theoretical values. Substitutional doping with Cr and Mn introduces localized 3d states near the Fermi level, driving a transition toward spin-polarized metallic or half-metallic behavior accompanied by robust ferromagnetism. Density-of-states and band-structure analyses reveal that magnetism and charge transport in the doped systems are dominated by exchange-split transition-metal 3d states hybridized with N-2p orbitals. Total energy calculations confirm ferromagnetic ground states for both Cr- and Mn-doped ScN, with Mn substitution yielding stronger exchange stabilization and higher magnetic moments. Magnetocrystalline anisotropy energies, evaluated using the force-theorem approach, are found to be negligibly small, indicating weak anisotropy consistent with the moderate spin–orbit coupling strength in ScN-based nitrides. Nevertheless, symmetry breaking around dopant sites gives rise to a finite Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya interaction, leading to weak spin canting and non-collinear magnetic tendencies. The interplay between magnetic exchange coupling, spin–orbit interaction, and local inversion symmetry breaking positions of Cr- and Mn-doped ScN as promising dilute magnetic semiconductors with tunable spin polarization and chiral magnetic interactions, offering a viable platform for nitride-based spintronic and magneto-electronic applications. Steel slags are major by-products of steelmaking, and their variable composition complicates recycling and valorization strategies. This study investigates four representative slag samples obtained from different production pathways at an industrial steel plant in Uzbekistan, using a combined multi-scale characterization approach. Bulk elemental composition was determined using X-ray fluorescence (XRF), while microstructural and phase-level analysis was carried out using scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive spectroscopy (SEM–EDS), including both point analysis and automated phase mapping. The XRF results revealed two distinct compositional groups, with one slag dominated by Mn–Si–O chemistry and three slags characterized by high Ca content. SEM–EDS phase mapping further resolved these differences at the microscale, identifying manganese silicate and oxide phases in the Mn-rich slag, Ca–F–O dominant phases in two slags associated with fluorite flux addition, and a more heterogeneous Ca-based system with localized enrichments of Mn, Zn, and Cu in the fourth sample. The combined results demonstrate that slag composition strongly reflects steel grade and fluxing practice. The integration of XRF and SEM–EDS provides a robust framework for linking bulk chemistry with phase distribution, improving slag classification and supporting informed decisions for reuse and environmental management. Background. Patients with malignant or benign central nervous system (CNS) tumours are evaluated for suitability of treatment modality based on multiple clinical and tumour-related factors. To obtain multidisciplinary consensus, a patient’s file and imaging are commonly reviewed by a tumour board (TB). There are three relevant weekly TB venues at our institute—gamma knife stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) intake rounds, CNS rounds, and stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) rounds—which are attended by non-overlapping clinician teams. We explored the clinical parameters prompting multiple TB reviews in patients with complex CNS tumours. Methods. Data were retrospectively obtained from electronic medical records. Patients referred for discussion at SRS rounds (November 2017–June 2020) were cross-referenced with those reviewed in CNS rounds and SBRT rounds. The cohort of interest included patients who underwent review at more than one TB for the same indication. Patient, tumour, and treatment factors were abstracted, and descriptive statistics were calculated. A sub-cohort of patients with pre-plans created for both SRS and conventionally fractionated external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) was identified. Dosimetric data were analyzed. Results. Of 1091 patients, 87 (8.0%) were discussed at more than one TB. 59/87 (67.8%) patients were reviewed at two TBs pertaining to the same CNS lesion and comprised the study cohort. The most common tumour type was meningioma (20/59), and the most common reason for multiple discussions was proximity to optic structures (19/59). After TB discussions, 25/59 patients were seen in consultation by one specialist, 29/59 by two, and 5/59 by none. Overall, the final treatment decisions were conventional EBRT in 21/59; SRS in 18/59; surveillance in 12/59; surgery in 3/59; systemic therapy in 3/59; proton referral in 1/59; and SBRT in 1/59. A total of 20/59 patients were treated with palliative intent. Among all patients who ultimately received radiotherapy, median interval between the first TB discussion and the first RT treatment was 56 days (IQR 7.5–65.5 d). The pre-plan sub-cohort consisted of four patients, all of whom were ultimately treated with conventional EBRT. Conclusions. Evidence to support optimal treatment for some complex CNS tumours can be limited. Multiple radiotherapy modalities may be equally favourable (or unfavourable) options. Proximity to the optic apparatus and previous CNS irradiation are common reasons for clinical equipoise. Tumour board review is an essential tool in formulating a multidisciplinary care plan; however, attention should be paid to ensuring that subsequent consultations and treatment initiation are not unduly delayed. Extrusion-based bioprinting requires hydrogel materials with suitable rheological behavior, structural stability, and bio-related properties; however, the relationships among composition, network structure, and printing performance in multicomponent hydrogel systems remain insufficiently understood. In this study, a GG/SS/PVA/GEL composite hydrogel was developed and optimized using single-factor experiments combined with Box–Behnken response surface methodology. Rheological analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy were further used to characterize the optimized system. The optimal formulation was identified as 0.14 g of GG, 0.60 g of SS, and 2.3 g of PVA. This formulation achieved a comprehensive score of 87 with a prediction error of less than 5%. The optimized hydrogel exhibited pronounced shear-thinning behavior, a printing fidelity of 98.6–101.4%, a maximum swelling ratio of approximately 403.5%, and an enzymatic degradation rate of 68.5%, together with a relatively uniform interconnected porous structure. These results indicate that the optimized composite hydrogel is a promising printable material candidate and provide a useful basis for formulation design in extrusion-based hydrogel systems. Rapid electronic waste (e-waste) accumulation poses a critical challenge for urban sustainability in emerging economies. However, few studies have examined what motivates households to actively participate in formal disposal systems, particularly in contexts where infrastructure remains limited. This study investigates the determinants of e-waste recycling intention and behavior in Surabaya, Indonesia. A total of 168 active recyclers are surveyed and analyzed using structural equation modeling and importance–performance mapping. The findings reveal that awareness of environmental consequences significantly influences both recycling intention and actual behavior. Interestingly, while the perceived cost of recycling significantly shapes residents’ intention to participate, it does not translate into a significant effect on their actual recycling behavior. Similarly, the convenience of recycling services shows no significant influence on either intention or behavior. Mediation analysis confirms that environmental awareness indirectly shapes recycling behavior through its effect on intention. These findings suggest that, among early adopters of formal e-waste recycling in a developing-country context, cognitive drivers such as awareness outweigh structural barriers like cost and convenience in shaping long-term recycling engagement. For policymakers, this underscores the importance of highlighting awareness of e-waste impacts and the benefits of proper recycling, alongside efforts to remove physical and financial barriers for broader segments of the population. Background: Occupational exposure to cytotoxic drugs remains a major concern for pharmacy personnel, due to their well-established, carcinogenic, mutagenic and organ-specific effects. Despite the existence of robust international guidelines, evidence suggests substantial variability in compliance, training quality and operational conditions across healthcare settings. Objective: This study aimed to characterise current handling practices, assess working conditions, training, safety procedures, exposure patterns, and perceived risk factors among pharmacy technicians involved in the preparation of cytotoxic drugs in Portugal. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted using a structured questionnaire grounded in international standards (ISOPP, NIOSH, ASHP, USP <800>). The instrument was developed through literature review, expert panel validation (n = 42), and pre-testing. Data were collected electronically between April and May 2025 from pharmacy technicians actively handling cytotoxic drugs in Portugal. Results: A total of 124 valid responses were analysed. Most participants were female (78%) and under 50 years, with nearly one-third having less than one year of experience. Prolonged daily exposure (31.5% participants worked ≥ 5 h/day) extended uninterrupted handling periods (28.2% worked > 120 min), and high preparation workloads were common. While adherence to core protective measures—such as reinforced gowns, double gloves, and Class II B2 biological safety cabinets—was high, important gaps were identified, including incomplete use of closed system transfer devices, inconsistent respiratory and foot protection, limited automation, and insufficient environmental monitoring. Structured competency assessment, periodic training, and formal documentation were frequently absent. Institutional policies on reproductive risk showed strong protection for women but less clarity for male workers. Conclusions: Cytotoxic drug handling practices in Portugal demonstrate satisfactory adherence to fundamental protective measures but reveal significant structural and organisational gaps related to workload management, environmental monitoring, and continuous training. The absence of unified national guidance contributes to variability across institutions. These findings highlight the need for greater standardisation of occupational safety practices. Full article
