In the context of global climate change, achieving a green and low-carbon economic transition is essential for sustainable development. This study constructs a model using data from 30 provinces collected between 2006 and 2020 to investigate how green finance influences China’s carbon productivity and the transmission mechanism mediated by factor-biased technological progress. The findings reveal the following: (1) The Moran’s index test for carbon productivity across Chinese provinces demonstrates significant spatial clustering. (2) Green finance exhibits substantial spillover effects on carbon productivity in surrounding regions. (3) Capital-biased and energy-biased technological progress significantly mediate the relationship between green finance and carbon productivity, indicating that green finance enhances carbon productivity by optimizing the allocation of capital, labor, and energy factors. (4) Regional heterogeneity analysis indicates that capital-technology-biased and energy-factor-technology-biased approaches can significantly enhance carbon productivity in Central and Northeastern China. Notably, energy-factor innovation delivers far greater environmental efficiency gains in these regions than in Eastern and Western China. Full article

Aging is characterized by a progressive decline in physiological function that impairs performance and increases vulnerability to disease and mortality. Delaying this deterioration is key to promoting healthy aging. Age-associated functional decline is closely linked to alterations in intermediary metabolism, including disrupted lipid metabolism and impaired mitochondrial function. Counteracting these metabolic changes, particularly those affecting basal metabolic rate and energy utilization, may be a feasible strategy to extend healthspan. The Renin-Angiotensin System (RAS), which controls blood pressure through Angiotensin II, an octapeptide hormone generated from Angiotensin I by Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme (ACE), has been identified as a potential target for aging therapies. ACE inhibitors, such as the commonly prescribed vasodilator lisinopril, have been shown to exert beneficial effects on healthspan. Disentangling their systemic effects from direct cellular actions on intermediary metabolism is challenging in humans but can be pursued in model organisms. Drosophila melanogaster expresses two ortholog of mammalian ACE, Ance and Acer, which have diverged to acquire different functions. Since fundamental cellular processes are evolutionarily conserved and flies have an open circulatory system, Drosophila provides a versatile model for translational studies on ACE inhibition and aging. Recent studies in Drosophila reveal sex-, age-, and genetic background-specific effects of lisinopril on metabolic rates and aging-related organismal phenotypes. Integrating preclinical findings from Drosophila with clinical studies will be essential to define the therapeutic potential of RAS inhibition in extending lifespan and delaying aging. Full article

Background: Compared to other high-income countries, US women face higher maternal and infant mortality rates. Methods: This study used structural equation modeling (SEM) to examine cross-sectional, county-level associations between structural and intermediary social determinants of health (SDOHs) and maternal and infant mortalities, based on the World Health Organization’s Commission on Social Determinants of Health framework. Results: Our findings suggest maternal mortality may be linked to increased food insecurity, food assistance, distance to obstetric care, and decreased walkability and marriage rates. Our modeling also points toward a connection between infant mortality and increased food insecurity, food assistance, Black race, mental distress, and decreased walkability, education, and income. SEM revealed significant direct and indirect effects of these SDOHs. Notably, food insecurity and walkability had direct associations with both maternal and infant mortality in both SEM models. Conclusions: The findings underscore the need for policy, practice, and research efforts to address key SDOHs and reduce mortality disparities in the US. Full article

As a key component of new infrastructure, smart logistics is becoming an essential driver for reducing foreign trade costs and risks and promoting the sustainable development of foreign trade. Using panel data from 286 prefecture level and above cities from 2014 to 2023, this article attempts to refine the measurement of smart logistics level from provincial to municipal levels, construct a two-way fixed effect model and a mediation effect model, and deeply explore the inherent relationship between smart logistics, industrial structure upgrading, and sustainable development of foreign trade. The results reveal that: (1) smart logistics significantly promotes the sustainable development of foreign trade. (2) Rationalization and advancement of industrial structure play an intermediary role between the two. (3) Market integration has a positive moderating effect on the path of “smart logistics—industrial structure rationalization”, but the moderating effect is not significant in other paths. It has been confirmed that there is a “siphon effect” in the advantageous regions. (4) Heterogeneity analysis shows that the effect of smart logistics on foreign trade promotion is more significant in the central and inland regions. This study provides a theoretical basis and practical inspiration for optimizing regional smart logistics layout and deepening industrial structure adjustment. Full article

The integration of blockchain technology into healthcare offers a robust solution to challenges in secure data sharing, privacy protection, and operational efficiency. Effective exchange of sensitive patient information among hospitals, clinics, insurers, and researchers is essential for better outcomes and medical advancements. Traditional centralized systems often suffer from data breaches, inefficiency, and poor interoperability. This paper presents a blockchain-based secure data-sharing framework tailored for healthcare, addressing these limitations. The framework employs a hybrid blockchain model, combining private and public blockchains: the private chain ensures fast transactions and controlled access, while the public chain fosters transparency and trust. Advanced cryptographic methods—such as asymmetric encryption, hashing, and digital signatures—safeguard patient data and maintain integrity throughout the datalifecycle. Smart contracts automate processes like consent management, access control, and auditing, ensuring dynamic permission enforcement without intermediaries. Role-based access control (RBAC) further limits access to authorized entities, enhancing privacy. To tackle interoperability, standardized data formats and protocols enable smooth communication across diverse healthcare systems. Large files, such as medical images, are stored off-chain, with only essential metadata and logs on the blockchain. Amplifying corporate environmental investments is a pivotal strategy for achieving the “carbon peak and carbon neutral” objectives of China’s green development initiative. The digital transformation has the potential to generate new quality productive forces by leveraging data, thereby promoting green technology innovation, enhancing technology efficiency, and leveraging the impact of resource reallocation. Consequently, this transition enables enterprises to transition from a “passive compliance” model to a “proactive enhancement” model, thereby achieving a significant quality leap forward in their environmental investment. The present study utilises a sample of Chinese A-share companies from 2011 to 2023 to innovatively construct a multifaceted data model to quantitatively analyse the impact of digital transformation on corporate environmental investment. This analysis incorporates the intermediary effects of enhanced new quality productive forces, the intermediary effects of data application, and the threshold effects of environmental uncertainty, as well as the non-linear effects of industry, property rights, regional differences, policy, and the intensity of production factors. The study’s findings are as follows: (1) Digital transformation significantly promotes corporate environmental investment, and this conclusion is robust. (2) The new quality productive forces have a positive intermediary effect on corporate environmental investment during digital transformation. (3) The application of big data has been demonstrated to moderate the intermediary effects of “digital transformation-new quality productive forces-enterprise environmental investment.” (4) The impact of environmental uncertainty on corporate environmental investment during the digital transformation process is characterised by a “barrier effect,” exhibiting a “border effect” that is non-linear in nature. (5) In the context of the lightweight pollution industry, non-state-owned enterprises, the eastern region, and the implementation of environmental policies, the efficacy of digital transformation in enhancing corporate environmental investment is particularly pronounced. In light of the aforementioned, the present study puts forth four specific recommendations, offering invaluable insights for the contemporary Chinese enterprise to navigate the process of transformation and achieve sustainable, high-quality growth. This paper selects 50 listed commercial banks in China from 2012 to 2023 as research samples, and employs the fixed effects model and Hansen’s threshold regression method to systematically examine the impact mechanism and non-linear characteristics of FinTech development on the profitability of commercial banks. The key findings are summarized as follows: (1) FinTech significantly undermines the overall profitability of commercial banks by reshaping the competitive landscape of the industry and intensifying the technology substitution effect. This is primarily reflected in the reduction in traditional interest income and the erosion of market share in intermediary business. (2) Heterogeneity analysis indicates that large state-owned banks and joint-stock banks experience more pronounced negative impacts compared to small and medium-sized banks. (3) Additional research findings reveal a significant single-threshold effect between FinTech and bank profitability, with a critical value of 4.169. When the development level of FinTech surpasses this threshold, its inhibitory effect diminishes substantially, suggesting that after achieving a certain degree of technological integration, commercial banks may partially alleviate external competitive pressures through synergistic effects. This study offers crucial empirical evidence and theoretical support for commercial banks to develop differentiated technology strategies and for regulatory authorities to design dynamically adaptable policy frameworks. Studying the impact of digital economy development on marine environmental quality has important theoretical and practical significance for achieving a win–win situation between high-quality economic development and high-level ecological environment protection. This article selects the marine environment of coastal provinces and cities in China from 2011 to 2022 as the research object and uses the entropy method to comprehensively evaluate the quality of marine environment and the level of digital economy. Also, we construct intermediary and threshold effect models to deeply explore the impact mechanism of digital economy development on marine environmental quality. We find that digital economy and marine environmental quality both show a wave-like rising trend, but the comprehensive level is relatively low. The development of the digital economy can effectively improve the level of marine environmental quality, and the digital economy promotes the improvement of marine environmental quality by improving the level of marine economy. The level of economic development and industrial scale has created a threshold effect in the process of promoting the development of marine environmental quality through the digital economy. Therefore, strengthening the digital governance of the marine environment and promoting the industrialization of marine ecology and the ecologicalization of marine industries will help promote the integrated development of the digital economy and marine environment. Strengthening climate resilience constitutes a foundational approach through which cities adapt to climate change and mitigate associated environmental risks. However, research on the influence of economic policy environments on climate resilience remains limited. Guided by institutional theory and dynamic capability theory, this study employs a panel dataset comprising 272 Chinese cities at the prefecture level and above, covering the period from 2009 to 2023. It constructs a composite index framework for evaluating the green business environment (GBE) and urban climate resilience (UCR) using the entropy weight method. Employing a two-way fixed-effect regression model, it examined the impact of GBE optimization on UCR empirically and also explored the underlying mechanisms. The results show that improvements in the GBE significantly enhance UCR, with green innovation (GI) in technology functioning as an intermediary mechanism within this relationship. Moreover, climate policy uncertainty (CPU) exerts a moderating effect along this transmission pathway: on the one hand, it amplifies the beneficial effect of the GBE on GI; on the other hand, it hampers the transformation of GI into improved GBEs. The former effect dominates, indicating that optimizing the GBE becomes particularly critical for enhancing UCR under high CPU. To eliminate potential endogenous issues, this paper adopts a two-stage regression model based on the instrumental variable method (2SLS). The above conclusion still holds after undergoing a series of robustness tests. This study reveals the mechanism by which a GBE enhances its growth through GI. By incorporating CPU as a heterogeneous factor, the findings suggest that governments should balance policy incentives with environmental regulations in climate resilience governance. Furthermore, maintaining awareness of the risks stemming from climate policy volatility is of critical importance. By providing a stable and supportive institutional environment, governments can foster steady progress in green innovation and comprehensively improve urban adaptive capacity to climate change. The port logistics service innovation (PLSI) is closely associated with cross-border e-commerce (CBEC) enterprise performance, given that the port, as the spatial carrier and the joint point of goods, information, customs house affairs, etc., is essentially a key node of the CBEC logistics chain. However, the influence mechanism of PLSI on CBEC enterprise performance has still not yet been elaborated by consensus. To fill this gap, this study aims to figure out the effect mechanism integrating the probe into two variables (i.e., information interaction and environmental upgrade) in a moderated mediation model. Specifically, this study collects questionnaire survey data of logistics enterprises and CBEC enterprises in the Ningbo-Zhoushan Port of China by the Bootstrap method in the software SPSS 26.0. The results show the following: (1) PLSI can positively affect the CBEC enterprise performance; (2) information interaction plays an intermediary role between PLSI and CBEC enterprise performance; and (3) environmental upgrade can not only positively regulate the relationship between information interaction and CBEC enterprise performance, but also enhance the mediating role of information interaction with a moderated intermediary effect. This quantitative study investigates the effects of virtual reality immersion on enhancing scientific habits of mind (critical and creative thinking) through the mediation of flow experience, motivation, and self-regulation in high school biology classes in East Jerusalem. The random multi-stage cluster sample consisted of 347 high school students from three schools who learned biology concepts constructively during the first semester using VR-based instruction, complying with the principles of the Cognitive Affective Model of Immersive Learning (CAMIL). The results of PLS-SEM revealed that VRI significantly affected critical and creative thinking directly and indirectly. Cases of partial and complete mediation intervened, showing the effects of mediators on enhancing habits of mind through a sequence of mediation flowing from flow experience through motivation to self-regulation, which functioned as a key intermediary factor in the relationship between virtual reality immersion and habits of mind. Based on the results of the study, the complex structure warrants further investigation. The results of the study suggest that VRI’s impact on critical and creative thinking was intensified through mediation effects. In addition, the findings confirm that flow experience and motivation played essential roles in fostering a conducive learning environment that supports cognitive skill development. The results highlight that the enhancement of self-regulation was a necessary step for the enhancement of critical and creative thinking. The study recommends integrating VRI into teaching biology to enhance students’ higher-order thinking skills. Further studies on self-regulation should explore adaptive interventions that strengthen self-regulatory strategies to maximize the cognitive benefits of virtual reality immersion. Full article

Building Information Modeling (BIM) has excellent potential to enhance building operation and maintenance. However, as a standardized data format in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry, the retrieval of BIM information generally requires specialized software. Cumbersome software operations prevent its effective application in the actual operation and management of buildings. This paper presents BIMCoder, a model designed to translate natural language queries into structured query statements compatible with professional BIM software (e.g., BIMserver v1.5). It serves as an intermediary component between users and various BIM platforms, facilitating access for users without specialized BIM knowledge. A dedicated BIM information query dataset was constructed, comprising 1680 natural language query and structured BIM query string pairs, categorized into 12 groups. Three classical pre-trained large language models (LLMs) (ERNIE 3.0, Llama-13B, and SQLCoder) were evaluated on this dataset. A fine-tuned model based on SQLCoder was then trained. Subsequently, a fusion model (BIMCoder) integrating ERNIE and SQLCoder was designed. Test results demonstrate that the proposed BIMCoder model achieves an outstanding accurate matching rate of 87.16% and an Execution Accuracy rate of 88.75% for natural language-based BIM information retrieval. This study confirms the feasibility of natural language-based BIM information retrieval and offers a novel solution to reduce the complexity of BIM system interaction. Full article

With the development of higher education, college students have become a new and important group for environmentally sustainable development. How to evaluate and strengthen the practical effect of ecological education is of great significance. Based on the survey data of 1579 university students, this study constructed a systematic index system of ecological education by using a hierarchical evaluation method. Moreover, OLS (Ordinary Least Squares), Oprobit, and intermediary effect models were used to analyze the influence relationship and mechanism of the two empirically and IV-Oprobit was used to solve the endogeneity problem. The results show the following: (1) Ecological education can effectively promote the sustainable behavior of university students, and the probability of university students implementing sustainable behavior increases by 10.7% with each unit increase in the level of ecological education. (2) Environmental value perception such as in individual economic value perception, social value perception, and health value perception are all important mediating channels of ecological education, among which health value perception has the strongest mediating effect. (3) Particulate Matter 2.5 (PM2.5) exposure positively moderates the impact of university students’ environmental value perception on their sustainable behavior. (4) There is a significant correlation between university students’ household registration, participation in environmental associations and hometown social networks, and sustainable behaviors. (5) The influence of ecological education on students’ behaviors shows heterogeneity in family household registration. Students from rural families have a higher level of environmental behavior and value perception than those from urban families. Moreover, they are more likely to exhibit behaviors under the influence of ecological education. The above results provide reference suggestions for the ecological education policy system and offer theoretical support and policy inspiration for promoting sustainable behaviors among global college students and enhancing the efficiency of ecological education in universities. The new energy vehicle (NEV) industry has become one of the most important industries in China’s economic development. Based on the panel data of 27 provincial administrative regions in China from 2011 to 2022, combined with the random effect panel of the Tobit model and the Bootstrap method to test the multiple intermediary paths, this paper studies the impact of new energy vehicle promotion (NEVP) in China on regional green development, taking into account the intermediary effect and regional heterogeneity of NEVP on the green development level (GDL). The results show that NEVP significantly promotes the GDL. The mediating effect of NEVP to improve local-level green development through the digital economy level is significant in the eastern region, while in the central and western regions, it is not significant. NEVP can significantly promote the upgrading of regional industrial structure and the construction of transportation infrastructure in the eastern, central, and western regions so as to improve the local GDL. This paper addresses the challenges of multicasting in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs), where communication relies exclusively on direct interactions between mobile nodes without the support of fixed infrastructure. In such networks, efficient information dissemination is critical, particularly in scenarios where an event detected by one node must be reliably communicated to a designated subset of nodes. The highly dynamic nature of MANET, characterized by frequent topology changes and unpredictable connectivity, poses significant challenges to stable and efficient multicasting. To address these issues, we adopt a Publish/Subscribe (Pub/Sub) model that utilizes brokers as intermediaries for information dissemination. However, ensuring the robustness of broker-based multicasting in a highly mobile environment requires novel strategies to mitigate the effects of frequent disconnections and mobility-induced disruptions. To this end, we propose a framework based on three key principles: (1) leveraging the Disruption-Tolerant Networking Implementations of the Bundle Protocol 7 (DTN7) at the network layer to sustain message delivery even in the presence of intermittent connectivity and high node mobility; (2) dynamically generating broker replicas to ensure that broker functionality persists despite sudden node failures or disconnections; and (3) enabling brokers and their replicas to periodically broadcast advertisement packets to maintain communication paths and facilitate efficient data forwarding, drawing inspiration from Named Data Networking (NDN) techniques. To evaluate the effectiveness of our approach, we conduct extensive simulations using ns-3, examining its impact on message delivery reliability, latency, and overall network throughput. The results demonstrate that our method significantly reduces message delivery delays while improving delivery rates, particularly in high-mobility scenarios. Additionally, the integration of DTN7 at the bundle layer proves effective in mitigating performance degradation in environments where nodes frequently change their positions. Our findings highlight the potential of our approach in enhancing the resilience and efficiency of broker-assisted multicasting in MANET, making it a promising solution for real-world applications such as disaster response, military operations, and decentralized IoT networks.
