(1) Background: This study aimed to develop and validate a new instrument to measure relational reflexivity in management settings. Relational reflexivity—defined as the integration of self-awareness, perspective-taking, and interpersonal responsibility—has been discussed conceptually, but it lacks a standardized, psychometrically sound measurement tool. (2) Methods: A 25-item scale was developed based on a literature review and administered to 524 sport management students. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was used to identify the underlying structure. A 15-item version, based on item performance and theoretical fit, was then tested using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) on a randomly selected subsample (n = 400). Model fit was assessed using RMSEA, CFI, TLI, and χ2/df. (3) Results: EFA revealed a five-factor structure consistent with theoretical expectations: self-awareness, perspective-taking, communication and conflict resolution, respect and mediation, and intrapersonal reflexivity, explaining 53.5% of the total variance. CFA confirmed the model with excellent fit indices (RMSEA = 0.0605; CFI = 0.955; TLI = 0.941). Factor loadings were high (0.89–1.13), and all were statistically significant. (4) Conclusions: The result (RRMQ) is a valid and reliable tool for assessing multidimensional relational reflexivity in leadership and team contexts. Soft skills play a fundamental role in transversal competences in the field of training and employment, especially in university collectives with disabilities. Traditional methodologies are giving way to gamified and transmedia environments, which are more efficient in the educational process and more sustainable for institutions. This study compares two educational programmes, one based on MOOCs and the other in a gamified environment (Transwork), with the participation of 181 university graduates with some degree of disability and unemployed for more than five years. The gamified educational programme shows a significantly lower dropout rate and a higher employability rate (χ2, p < 0.001), as well as an improvement in interpersonal skills such as teamwork and conflict management. This demonstrates that methodologies in gamified and transmedia environments promote social sustainability by enhancing autonomy and inclusion in vulnerable groups, as well as contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, especially those related to quality education, reducing inequality, and decent work. This improvement in the labour market integration of people with disabilities represents not only an advance in equity, but also a long-term saving in care costs, by promoting their autonomy and active participation in the labour market. Thus, the sustainability of the social system is reinforced through inclusive educational policies based on gamified environments. Full article

Teacher-to-Student Victimization: The Role of Teachers’ Victimization and School Social and Organizational Climates

Prior research has largely neglected the issue of violence perpetrated by teachers against students, even though evidence indicates its prevalence worldwide. Research has also overlooked teachers’ perspectives on these concerning phenomena, relying predominantly on student reports. To address this gap, this cross-sectional study used a sample of 214 teachers from six Hebrew-language and four Arabic-language middle and high schools across Israel (69.2% female; 61.2% older than 41 years) to predict teachers’ reports on teacher-to-student victimization based on teachers’ victimization by students and parents, school social climate, and three dimensions of the school organizational climate: interpersonal conflict at work, trust in the principal, and job socialization. Chi-square and t-tests were used to examine the bivariate associations between teacher-to-student victimization and the predictors, and a three-step hierarchical binary logistic regression was used to examine multivariate associations. Teachers who reported teacher-to-student victimization scored higher on interpersonal conflict at work, social climate, trust in the principal, and job socialization compared to those who did not report such violence. Binary logistic regression analysis predicting teacher-to-student victimization revealed that Arabic-speaking teachers were more likely to report such victimization compared to their Hebrew-speaking counterparts. Teachers who reported a less positive school climate and higher levels of interpersonal conflict in the workplace were far more likely to report incidents of teacher-to-student victimization. The study highlights key directions for practice to address teacher-to-student victimization, including the establishment of a more positive social and organizational climate, with an emphasis on the role of the school principal as a central component of this initiative. Background: Adverse early childhood developmental outcomes across physical, cognitive, language, communication, and socioemotional domains are major global health concerns. This systematic review aimed to synthesise perinatal and childhood risk factors using a socioecological model. Methods: We searched six databases for cohort, case–control, and cross-sectional studies published between January 2000 and January 2024. Studies reporting risk factors for adverse developmental outcomes were included. Findings were organised across individual, interpersonal, community, and societal levels using a socioecological model. The protocol was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42023447352). Results: A total of 175 studies were included. Individual-level risk factors, including preterm birth, low birth weight, male sex, chronic illness, undernutrition, and excessive screen use, were associated with adverse developmental outcomes, while exclusive breastfeeding, reading books, and storytelling were protective factors. Interpersonal risks included maternal age, education, mental health, and pregnancy complications. Community and societal risks include environmental pollution, access to education, conflict, and healthcare access. Conclusions: Improving early childhood developmental outcomes may require intervention at multiple levels. Future studies may need to focus on the influence of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and environmental exposures on early childhood developmental outcomes. Full article

The increasing prevalence of smartphone use has raised concerns about its impact on human psychological functioning. This literature review provides a comprehensive overview of the psychological dimensions influenced by smartphone use, spanning health psychology, individual differences, social psychology, and cognitive functioning. The review draws on findings from numerous studies, primarily conducted in highly developed Western and Asian countries, where cultural factors may influence usage patterns and psychological outcomes. Key limitations in the current body of research include geographical biases and methodological challenges such as sample homogeneity and reliance on self-report measures. Evidence suggests that excessive smartphone use can lead to addiction and is associated with negative psychological and health consequences. The review also highlights how individual differences—such as personality traits, age, and gender—affect smartphone usage. Social implications, both positive (e.g., increased connectivity) and negative (e.g., interpersonal conflict), are explored in depth. Cognitive effects are considered, particularly in relation to attention and memory, where findings suggest potential impairments in sustained focus and information retention. While the literature often emphasizes risks, this review also points to the need for further exploration of the potential benefits of smartphone use. Workplace health and safety issues have long plagued the construction industry. While safety efforts have traditionally focused on physical risks, increasing attention is being paid to mental health and work-related stressors, which can negatively affect both productivity and safety. In Saudi Arabia, the construction sector presents a unique context because of its highly diverse, multinational workforce. Workers of different nationalities often operate on the same job site, leading to potential communication barriers, cultural misunderstandings, and inconsistent safety practices, all of which may amplify stress and safety risks. This research aims to investigate the influence of work-related stressors on construction workers’ safety in Saudi Arabia and identify which stressors most significantly contribute to the risk of injury. A structured questionnaire was distributed to 349 construction workers across 16 job sites in Saudi Arabia. The survey measures ten key stressors identified in the literature, including job site demand, job control, job certainty, skill demand, social support, harassment and discrimination, conflict with supervisors, interpersonal conflict, and job satisfaction. Data were analyzed using logistic regression and Pearson correlation to examine relationships between stressors and self-reported injuries. The findings indicated that work-related stressors significantly predict workplace injury. While the first regression model showed a modest effect size, it was statistically significant. The second model identified job site demand and job satisfaction as the most influential predictors of injury risk. Work-related stressors, particularly high job demands and low job satisfaction, substantially increase the likelihood of injury among construction workers. These findings emphasize the importance of incorporating psychosocial risk management into construction safety practices in Saudi Arabia. Future studies should adopt longitudinal designs to explore causal relationships over time and include qualitative methods such as interviews to gain a deeper understanding. Additionally, factors such as nationality, organizational policies, and management style should be investigated to better understand their moderating effects on the stress–injury relationship. Background and Objectives: Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is a complex psychiatric condition characterized by emotional instability, impulsivity, a fluctuating self-image, and persistent difficulties in maintaining close interpersonal relationships. Among university students, these traits may be associated with social adjustment and academic functioning difficulties. The present study aimed to examine the prevalence of borderline traits within a Romanian student population and to investigate the associations between these traits and interpersonal difficulties encountered in family life, romantic relationships, and academic environments. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study included a total of 151 undergraduate students enrolled in higher education institutions across Romania. Data were gathered through an online questionnaire available between March and May 2025. The instrument comprised items addressing socio-demographic characteristics, diagnostic criteria for borderline personality traits according to the DSM, as well as self-reported social behaviour patterns. Statistical analysis was performed using GraphPad Prism 9, version 9.3.1 for Windows, employing Fisher’s exact test and the odds ratio (OR), with a significance threshold set at p < 0.05. Results: Most participants reported experiencing affective instability (71.5%) and distorted self-image (58.9%). Fear of abandonment was present in 29.4% of the respondents, while impulsivity was identified in 37.7%. Borderline personality traits were significantly associated with a range of social difficulties, including relational anxiety, outbursts of anger, peer conflicts, social withdrawal, and dissociative symptoms. Individuals who exhibited impulsivity, self-injurious behaviours, or dissociative episodes demonstrated a markedly increased risk of social dysfunction, with odds ratios ranging from 3 to 10 (p < 0.0001). Conclusions: The findings reveal a high prevalence of borderline traits within the analysed sample, along with statistically significant associations with social and emotional difficulties. These results underscore the importance of implementing psychological screening programs in universities, as well as early intervention strategies focused on the mental well-being of young adults. Establishing a supportive academic environment and fostering collaboration between faculty members and mental health professionals may play a key role in preventing symptom escalation and in promoting healthy personal and relational development. Background/Objective: Non-specific chronic neck pain (CNP) greatly affects the social dynamics, the work performance, and the personal independence of patients. Research emphasizes the significant role of sociological factors, psychological stress, and emotional conflicts in the development, regulation, and endurance of chronic pain. This study aims to explore the influence of emotional conflicts on pain experience among CNP patients, drawing from their experiences. Methods: A phenomenological investigation was conducted, grounded in Heideggerian philosophy, involving CNP patients and healthcare professionals in Madrid, Spain. Participants were recruited from Primary Health Care centers. Data collection methods included semi-structured in-depth interviews, focus groups with patients, focus groups with healthcare providers, participant observation, and reflective diaries. Hermeneutic phenomenology guided the data interpretation. Thematic analysis was applied to transcribed audio recordings. Results: This study included 12 patients with CNP who participated in two in-depth interviews conducted at different time points—before and after receiving physiotherapy treatment. Additionally, 23 CNP patients took part in four focus groups, and 46 healthcare professionals (including physicians, nurses, and physiotherapists) participated in three focus groups. A hermeneutic analysis revealed the following three main categories: “Self-concept and pain experience”, “Daily life obligations and pain perception”, and “Emotional conflicts related to CNP”. Patients described themselves as nervous, having communication difficulties, and often prioritizing family or work tasks, leading to stress. They indicated that their interpersonal conflicts with close relations intensified their perceived pain in the neck, head, shoulders, and arms. Conclusions: From the perspective of the participants in this study, interpersonal and emotional conflicts appear to influence their perception of CNP. Full article

Police officers work in high-stress environments that demand emotional resilience, interpersonal skills, and effective communication. Occupational stress can negatively impact their motivation, conflict resolution abilities, and professional effectiveness. Loving-Kindness Meditation (LKM), a mindfulness-based intervention focused on cultivating compassion and empathy, has shown promise in enhancing prosocial attitudes and emotional regulation. With the rise of short video platforms, digital interventions like video-guided LKM may offer accessible mental health support for law enforcement. This study examines the effects of short video app-guided LKM on police officers’ mindfulness, public service motivation (PSM), conflict resolution skills (CRSs), and communication skills (CSSs). It aims to determine whether LKM can enhance these psychological and professional competencies. A randomized controlled trial (RCT) was conducted with 110 active-duty police officers from a metropolitan police department in China, with 92 completing the study. Participants were randomly assigned to either the LKM group (n = 46) or the waitlist control group (n = 46). The intervention consisted of a 6-week short video app-guided LKM program with daily 10 min meditation sessions. Pre- and post-intervention assessments were conducted using several validated scales: the Mindfulness Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS), the Public Service Motivation Scale (PSM), the Conflict Resolution Styles Inventory (CRSI), and the Communication Competence Scale (CCS). A 2 (Group: LKM vs. Control) × 2 (Time: Pre vs. Post) mixed-design MANOVA was conducted to analyze the effects. Statistical analyses revealed significant group-by-time interaction effects for PSM (F(4,177) = 21.793, p < 0.001, η2 = 0.108), CRS (F(4,177) = 20.920, p < 0.001, η2 = 0.104), and CSS (F(4,177) = 49.095, p < 0.001, η2 = 0.214), indicating improvements in these areas for LKM participants. However, no significant improvement was observed for mindfulness (F(4,177) = 2.850, p = 0.930, η2 = 0.016). Short video app-guided LKM improves public service motivation, conflict resolution skills, and communication skills among police officers but does not significantly enhance mindfulness. These findings suggest that brief, digitally delivered compassion-focused programs can be seamlessly incorporated into routine in-service training to strengthen officers’ prosocial motivation, de-escalation competence, and public-facing communication, thereby fostering more constructive police–community interactions. Work–family conflict (WFC) is a common issue faced by employees balancing work and family roles, but research exploring individual strategies to reduce its negative effects has been limited. Leaders’ positive humor is a mutually (leader–subordinates) amusing communication tool in the workplace. It has been shown to enhance peer relationships (coworker socializing (CWS)) and may serve as an effective coping mechanism that mitigates the adverse effects of workplace stress (work–family conflict). This study strives to examine the relationship between leaders’ positive humor (LPH) and work–family conflict (WFC), with coworker socializing (CWS) mediating this relationship and sensitivity to favorable interpersonal treatment (SFIT) moderating the relationship between leaders’ positive humor and coworker socializing in the tourism and hospitality industry. The research addresses a significant gap in previous studies by investigating these variables together. A total of 387 valid questionnaires were collected from employees of five-star hotels and tourism organizations in Egypt. This study employed PLS-SEM to analyze the data. The results showed that leaders’ positive humor negatively impacts work–family conflict, positively influences coworker socializing and that coworker socializing negatively affects work–family conflict. Additionally, coworker socializing mediated the association between leaders’ positive humor and work–family conflict, and sensitivity to favorable interpersonal treatment moderated the relationship between leaders’ positive humor and coworker socializing. This study provides theoretical and practical insights by validating the proposed model based on the Stimulus–Organism–Response (S-O-R) framework and the Conservation of Resources (COR) theory. Regarding practical implications, the study recommends leadership training on the effective use of humor to foster follower socialization and promote work–family balance. Full article

Background/Objective: South Korea continues to have the highest suicide rate among the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries, with a growing number of emergency department (ED) admissions related to self-harm and suicide attempts. However, trauma-focused analyses that integrate psychiatric profiles and suicide mechanisms remain limited, hindering effective clinical care and preventive strategies. Methods: This retrospective study analyzed trauma patients who presented to the ED of Wonju Severance Christian Hospital following suicide attempts between October 2015 and December 2023. Of 305 self-harm cases, 208 survivors who underwent psychiatric evaluation were included. The variables analyzed included the mechanism, site, and severity of injury (ISS and AIS); psychiatric diagnosis and prior psychiatric history; repeated suicide attempts; alcohol use; physical pain; interpersonal conflict; and economic vulnerability. Chi-square, Fisher’s exact, and Kruskal–Wallis’ tests were used for statistical comparisons. Results: Stabbing/cutting (56.7%) and falling (35.6%) were the most common attempts. Mood disorders were the predominant psychiatric diagnosis (63.9%), followed by adjustment disorders (26.0%), alcohol use (25.5%), and psychotic disorders (22.1%). Among the fall-related cases, patients were typically younger and predominantly women. The median ISS was highest in fall-related cases (17) compared with stabbing/cutting (4), with 25.96% of patients with an ISS ≥16, indicating severe trauma. A psychiatric history was associated with a higher incidence of falls (44.3%), and previous suicide attempts correlated with the use of high-lethality attempts. Severe physical pain was linked to stabbing/cutting in 10 of 11 cases. Interpersonal conflict was more frequently associated with stabbing/cutting (59.6%) than with falls (31.9%). No significant association was found between alcohol use and the method of suicide attempt. Conclusions: The suicide mechanisms in patients with trauma are closely associated with psychiatric and psychosocial factors. Stabbing/cutting is often impulsive and driven by interpersonal conflict or alcohol use, while falling is more frequent in patients with psychiatric histories of repeated attempts. These findings emphasize the importance of mechanism-informed psychiatric evaluations and trauma protocols. Regionally adapted, interdisciplinary approaches and early psychiatric intervention are crucial for effective post-attempt management and suicide prevention. Full article

The association between job stress and burnout among emergency physicians is not fully understood. This study aimed to examine the relationship between stressors and burnout among physicians working in tertiary emergency medical centers in Japan. A 2014 cross-sectional study with 256 Japanese emergency physicians from 75 tertiary emergency medical centers incorporated a job stress questionnaire and the Pines Burnout Measure. Multiple logistic regression analysis was performed to determine the odds ratios of job stress factors associated with an increased risk of burnout. Ninety-eight (38.3%) participants were classified as experiencing burnout. The results showed that emergency physicians in the burnout group experienced significantly high physical overload, high interpersonal conflict, low job control, and low job suitability as job stressors. Low supervisor and family/friend support was significantly associated with burnout. Free-response data suggested that factors such as “no discretion or decision-making power”, “awareness that I am not suitable for emergency medical care”, and “dealing with patients and their families” may have contributed to the state of burnout among Japanese emergency physicians before the COVID-19 pandemic. Given the anticipated return to pre-pandemic conditions, addressing the risk factors of burnout identified in this study may assist Japanese emergency physicians in preventing burnout. Full article

The present study aimed to examine the relationship between multiple risk exposures in family and school settings and the depressive symptoms of Chinese students in early adolescence living in the ethnic regions of Yunnan and Hebei, China, via different multiple risk analytic approaches. A total of 2940 students (47.3% females) in grades 4 to 9 (Mage = 12.08, SD = 2.04) from ethnic minority counties in Yunnan and Hebei participated in the survey. The participants completed the questionnaires and reported family risk, school risk, depressive symptoms, and demographic information. The cumulative risk model and the individual multiple risk models with logistic regression/association rule mining were used to examine the effects of cumulative risk, the relative contributions of individual risks, and combinations of multiple risks. We found that (1) when a cumulative risk model was used, the associations between family cumulative risk and school cumulative risk on depressive symptoms were significant, but the cross-domain interaction effect was not significant. (2) The results of logistic regression indicated that high levels of family conflict, low levels of family cohesion, low levels of teacher support, and low levels of peer support were significantly correlated with a high risk for depression. (3) The results of association rule mining revealed meaningful associations between multiple risk factor combinations and depressive symptoms. In conclusion, the use of association rule mining enhanced the analyses and understanding of the effects of multiple risk exposures. Interpersonal stressors in family and school settings need to be addressed in depression prevention and intervention programs for adolescents. Full article

Workplace psychosocial hazards pose significant risks to the well-being of health workers (HWs). This study aimed to explore the levels of psychosocial factors experienced by Chinese and international workers and examine associations between psychosocial factors, health-related outcomes (mental problems and general health), and turnover intention across various occupational stages. A cross-sectional study was conducted using stratified cluster sampling methods at four hospitals in southern China. Psychosocial factors, mental health, general health, and turnover intention were assessed using the Chinese version of the Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire III. Multivariate linear and logistic regression analyses were conducted. A total of 1054 HWs participated in this study (response rate: 80.21%). Compared to international samples, Chinese HWs showed significant differences in nine psychosocial dimensions, particularly interpersonal relations, leadership, and the work–individual interface. Senior hospital managers reported significantly higher stress (51.09 ± 23.88, p < 0.001), sleep troubles (53.26 ± 24.92, p = 0.003), and poorer general health (57.61 ± 37.26, p = 0.035) than other occupational stages. Work–life conflict (β = 0.172), emotional demands (β = 0.132), and role clarity (β = −0.132) were the strongest predictors of mental health issues. Hiding emotions demands (β = −0.141) and leadership quality (β = 0.130) most strongly predicted general health. The turnover intention rate was 11.01%, with job satisfaction (OR = 0.964) being the strongest negative predictor. Reducing psychosocial stressors, particularly in work–life balance, role clarity, emotional demand, and leadership quality, could improve HWs’ well-being and reduce turnover intention. Full article

This article explores religious understandings of interpersonal forgiveness in post-conflict contexts. It challenges views that portray religious perspectives as purely normative, prescriptive, and insensitive to life’s complexities. This study draws from 75 in-depth interviews with religious leaders from Bosnia and Herzegovina’s three largest faith communities (Islamic Community, Roman Catholic Church, and Serbian Orthodox Church). Using grounded theory methodology for data collection and analysis, this research reveals three interrelated conceptualizations of forgiveness: (1) forgiveness as a dispensation from justified punishment, (2) forgiveness as an emotional process, and (3) forgiveness as a spiritual transformation. This paper further examines forgiveness along the dimensions of procedurality, collectivity, conditionality, and memory. Forgiveness emerges as a fragmented, non-linear process shaped by both individual and collective factors. While some fundamental openness toward forgiveness is often seen as unconditional, its progression depends significantly on the wrongdoer’s actions and broader context. Finally, the findings show that forgiveness does not imply forgetting, yet it substantially influences how past injuries are remembered and commemorated. Full article
