Tennessee is in the southern region of the United States and has not yet fully benefitted from HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Relatively little research has focused on pivotal roles of PrEP navigators. This study examined PrEP navigator perceptions of implementing long-acting injectable (LAI) PrEP in Tennessee. Semi-structured interviews with state-funded navigators were audio-recorded, transcribed, and systematically coded using a hierarchical system. Coded transcripts were aggregated, sorted, and analyzed using an iterative inductive/deductive qualitative approach. Using the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR), institutional, individual, and modifying factors to initiating and transitioning to LAI PrEP were identified. Most navigators initially had limited training and experience with LAI PrEP. Navigators reported systemic barriers associated with accessibility to LAI PrEP such as health insurance, pharmaceutical policies, and cost policies. While navigators noted the continued support of the state health department, strategies for circumventing individual and structural barriers are needed for universally implementing injectable PrEP. Detailed Investigation of Cobalt-Rich Crusts in Complex Seamount Terrains Using the Haima ROV: Integrating Optical Imaging, Sampling, and Acoustic Methods

The remotely operated vehicle (ROV), a vital deep-sea platform, offers key advantages, including operational duration via continuous umbilical power, high task adaptability, and zero human risk. It has become indispensable for deep-sea scientific research and marine engineering. To enhance surveys of cobalt-rich crusts (CRCs) on complex seamount terrains, the 4500-m-class Haima ROV integrates advanced payloads, such as underwater positioning systems, multi-angle cameras, multi-functional manipulators, subsea shallow drilling systems, sediment samplers, and acoustic crust thickness gauges. Coordinated control between deck monitoring and subsea units enables stable multi-task execution within single dives, significantly improving operational efficiency. Survey results from Caiwei Guyot reveal the following: (1) ROV-collected data were highly reliable, with high-definition video mapping CRCs distribution across varied terrains. Captured crust-bearing rocks weighed up to 78 kg, drilled cores reached 110 cm, and acoustic thickness measurements had a 1–2 cm margin of error compared to in situ cores; (2) Video and cores analysis showed summit platforms (3–5° slopes) dominated by tabular crusts with gravel-type counterparts, summit margins (5–10° slopes) hosting gravel crusts partially covered by sediment, and steep slopes (12–15° slopes) exhibiting mixed crust types under sediment coverage. Thicker crusts clustered at summit margins (14 and 15 cm, respectively) compared to thinner crusts on platforms and slopes (10 and 7 cm, respectively). The Haima ROV successfully investigated CRC resources in complex terrains, laying the groundwork for seamount crust resource evaluations. Future advancements will focus on high-precision navigation and control, high-resolution crust thickness measurement, optical imaging optimization, and AI-enhanced image recognition. Full article

With the development of intelligent waterborne transportation, mining collision avoidance patterns based on spatiotemporal and motion data of ships are crucial for the autonomous navigation of intelligent ships, which requires accurate collision avoidance information under various encounter scenarios. Addressing the existing issues of low precision and false detection in data mining algorithms, this paper proposes a collision avoidance behavior mining model considering encounter scenarios. The model is based on the Automatic Identification System (AIS) and the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGs); it firstly identifies ship collision avoidance turning points by analyzing trajectory curvature with turning and recovering factors. Then, by combining AIS data and the specific navigational environment, it matches the ship encounter pairs and determines the encounter scenarios. Comparative experiments show that the model demonstrates superior accuracy in various scenarios compared to traditional algorithm. Finally, the model was applied to AIS data east of the Yangtze River Estuary, recognizing a total of 827 instances of ship collision avoidance behavior under different encounter scenarios. The case study shows that the model can precisely mine collision avoidance information, laying a solid foundation for future research on autonomous collision avoidance decision making for intelligent ships. Narratives are intrinsic to how humans make sense of the world, helping us structure experiences, interpret complex phenomena, and construct meaning. This sensemaking capacity makes narratives particularly relevant for climate change education (CCE), where learners must navigate global challenges, engage with uncertainty and envision sustainable futures. Yet the characterisation of narratives remains conceptually ambiguous, presenting challenges for leveraging their educational potential. This study addresses this research problem by posing the question: How can we develop an operational definition of narratives for CCE that effectively unpacks the complexity of narrative as a way of thinking and enables analysis and comparison of narrative features for educational purposes? Grounded in Bruner’s theory of paradigmatic and narrative modes of thought, this paper introduces a four-layer framework for categorising narratives based on their “narrativity”. By demonstrating its practical application through an example, this study offers a tool for recognising, selecting, and/or designing narrative forms that align with diverse educational purposes, laying the ground for future research and practices in CCE. Electric wheelchairs are the primary means of transportation that enable individuals with disabilities to move independently to their desired locations. This paper introduces a novel, low-cost smart wheelchair system designed to enhance the mobility of individuals with severe disabilities through hand gesture recognition. Additionally, the system aims to support low-income individuals who previously lacked access to smart wheelchairs. Unlike existing methods that rely on expensive hardware or complex systems, the proposed system utilizes an affordable webcam and an Nvidia Jetson Nano embedded computer to process and recognize six distinct hand gestures—“Forward 1”, “Forward 2”, “Backward”, “Left”, “Right”, and “Stop”—to assist with wheelchair navigation. The system employs the “You Only Look Once version 8n” (YOLOv8n) model, which is well suited for low-spec embedded computers, trained on a self-collected hand gesture dataset containing 12,000 images. The pre-processing phase utilizes the MediaPipe library to generate landmark hand images, remove the background, and then extract the region of interest (ROI) of the hand gestures, significantly improving gesture recognition accuracy compared to previous methods that relied solely on hand images. Experimental results demonstrate impressive performance, achieving 99.3% gesture recognition accuracy and 93.8% overall movement accuracy in diverse indoor and outdoor environments. Furthermore, this paper presents a control circuit system that can be easily installed on any existing electric wheelchair. This approach offers a cost-effective, real-time solution that enhances the autonomy of individuals with severe disabilities in daily activities, laying the foundation for the development of affordable smart wheelchairs. This study advances AI-powered news delivery by introducing an innovative chatbot capable of providing personalized news summaries and real-time event analysis. This approach addressed a critical gap identified through a comprehensive review of 52 AI chatbot studies. Unlike prior models limited to static information retrieval or predefined interactions, this chatbot harnesses generative AI and real-time data integration to deliver a dynamic and tailored news experience. Its unique architecture combines conversational AI, robotic process automation (RPA), a comprehensive news database (989,432 reports from 2342 sources spanning 27 October 2023 to 30 September 2024), and a large language model (LLM). Within this architecture, LLM generates dynamic queries against the News database for obtain tailored News for the users. Hence, this approach interprets user intent, and delivers LLM-based summaries of the fetched tailored news. Empirical testing with 35 users across 321 diverse news queries validated its robustness in navigating a combinatorial classification space of 53,916,650 potential news categorizations, achieving an F1-score of 0.97, recall of 0.99, and precision of 0.96. Deployed on Microsoft Teams and as a standalone web app, this research lays the foundation for transformative AI applications in news analysis, promising to revolutionize news consumption and empower a more informed citizenry. Working with young people is a key part of the story of British evangelicalism, both being formed by and forming evangelical Christian life. Exploring evangelical youth ministry through the lens of the origins of the Crusaders’ Union of Bible Classes (now Urban Saints) in the UK and demonstrating the shared threads and themes in regard to the Australian and US contexts, through studies of the InterVarsity Fellowship (IVF) and Young Life, respectively, key themes are revealed that embody an evangelical approach to working with young people. These themes, encapsulated within the overall practice of relationship building, focus on influential young people, charismatic lay leadership, and have an emphasis on fun. We further demonstrate the wider influence on evangelical church life encapsulated by this evangelical sensibility towards working with young people that endures, which is often unacknowledged. In addition, these themes suggest an operant theology that raises questions for the practice of evangelical youth ministry. The consideration of these themes can help us respond to some of the challenges faced by youth ministry in the UK and young people in contemporary culture. Moreover, the historical threads contain possibilities that might help evangelicals navigate a future in regard to working with young people. Full article

Background: Genetic and genomic literacy is pivotal in empowering cancer patients and citizens to navigate the complexities of omics sciences, resolve misconceptions surrounding clinical research and genetic/genomic testing, and make informed decisions about their health. In a fast-evolving scenario where routine testing has become widespread in healthcare, this scoping review sought to pinpoint existing gaps in literacy and understanding among cancer patients and the general public regarding genetics and genomics. Methods: Adhering to the PRISMA framework, the review included 43 studies published between January 2018 and June 2024, which evaluated the understanding of genetics and genomics among cancer patients, caregivers, and citizens. Results: Although the selected studies had significant heterogeneity in populations and evaluation tools, our findings indicate inadequate literacy levels, with citizens displaying lower proficiency than cancer patients and caregivers. This review highlighted consistent knowledge gaps in understanding the genetic and genomic underpinnings of diseases, encompassing misconceptions about mutation types and inheritance patterns, limited awareness of available genetic testing options, and difficulties in interpreting test results. Ethical and privacy concerns and the psychological impact of genetic testing were also common, highlighting the imperative need for effective communication between healthcare providers and patients. Conclusions: Given the dynamic nature of genomic science, the review underscores the need for continuously evolving educational programs tailored to diverse populations. Our findings could guide the development of educational resources addressed explicitly to cancer patients, caregivers, and the lay public. Full article

As the telecommunications landscape braces for the post-5G era, this paper embarks on delineating the foundational pillars and pioneering visions that define the trajectory toward 6G wireless communication systems. Recognizing the insatiable demand for higher data rates, enhanced connectivity, and broader network coverage, we unravel the evolution from the existing 5G infrastructure to the nascent 6G framework, setting the stage for transformative advancements anticipated in the 2030s. Our discourse navigates through the intricate architecture of 6G, highlighting the paradigm shifts toward superconvergence, non-IP-based networking protocols, and information-centric networks, all underpinned by a robust 360-degree cybersecurity and privacy-by-engineering design. Delving into the core of 6G, we articulate a systematic exploration of the key technologies earmarked to revolutionize wireless communication including terahertz (THz) waves, optical wireless technology, and dynamic spectrum management while elucidating the intricate trade-offs necessitated by the integration of such innovations. This paper not only lays out a comprehensive 6G vision accentuated by high security, affordability, and intelligence but also charts the course for addressing the pivotal challenges of spectrum efficiency, energy consumption, and the seamless integration of emerging technologies. The Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) provides critical positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) services worldwide, enabling a wide range of applications from everyday use to advanced scientific and military operations. The importance of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) PNT systems lies in their ability to enhance the GNSS by implementing signals in additional frequency bands, offering increased signal strength, reduced latency, and improved accuracy and coverage, particularly in challenging environments such as urban canyons or polar regions, thereby addressing the limitations of the traditional Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) GNSS. This paper details the system engineering of a novel CubeSat-based multi-regional PNT system tailored for deployment in LEO. The proposed system leverages on a miniaturized CubeSat-compatible PNT payload that includes a chip-scale atomic clock (CSAC) and relies on MEO GNSS technologies to deliver positioning and timing information across multiple regions. The findings indicate that the proposed CubeSat-based PNT system offers a viable solution for enhancing global navigation and timing services, with potential commercial and scientific applications. This work contributes to the growing body of knowledge on LEO-based PNT systems and lays the groundwork for future research and development in this rapidly evolving field. Full article

As the world pivots to a greener paradigm, Shanghai emerges as an archetype in the sustainable urban transit narrative, particularly through the aggressive expansion and refinement of its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. This scholarly article provides a comprehensive examination of the current state of charging infrastructure in Shanghai, highlighting the challenges that the existing infrastructure may face in light of the burgeoning electric vehicle market. This paper delves into the strategic development approaches adopted by Shanghai to address these challenges, particularly emphasizing the expansion of high-power charging infrastructure to meet the anticipated increase in future electric vehicle charging demands. It also discusses the implementation of co-construction and sharing models, the enhancement of interconnectivity and standardized management of charging facilities, and the continuous improvement and strengthening of infrastructure construction and operations. Furthermore, this article explores the implementation of time-of-use electricity pricing policies and the ongoing conduct of demand response activities, which are instrumental in creating conditions for vehicle-to-grid interaction. The aim of our presentation is to foster a keen understanding among policymakers, industry stakeholders, and urban planners of the mechanisms necessary to effectively navigate the emerging electric vehicle market, thereby encouraging harmonious development between metropolises and transportation systems. Future research endeavors should delve into the realms of fast-charging technologies, intelligent operation and maintenance of charging infrastructure, and vehicle-to-grid interaction technologies. These areas of study are pivotal in fostering the harmonious development of electric vehicles (EVs) and their charging infrastructure, thereby aligning with the dual objectives of advancing urban transportation systems and sustainable green city development. The findings presented herein offer valuable insights for policymakers, urban planners, and industry leaders, guiding them in crafting informed strategies that not only address the immediate needs of the EV market but also lay the groundwork for a scalable and resilient charging infrastructure, poised to support the long-term vision of sustainable urban mobility. In today’s rapidly changing social and employment environment, young university students face unprecedented career development challenges. They must not only acquire strong professional knowledge and skills but also navigate the complex job market. Career calling, as a profound professional value, provides individuals with a clear sense of purpose, laying a solid foundation for their career development. Therefore, cultivating career calling has gained increasing attention in higher education, which is essential for developing future social workers who are both responsible and purposeful. This study aims to reveal the impact of individuals’ career exploration on career calling and its underlying mechanisms, as well as the influence of personality differences during the exploration process. The study was conducted in two universities in Guangdong Province, China, using online questionnaires that yielded 421 valid responses. The results confirmed that career exploration positively influenced career calling, with career decision-making self-efficacy mediating this relationship. Additionally, openness to experience moderates the connection between career exploration and career calling. These findings offer valuable insights for educators and career counselors, helping them develop effective strategies and interventions to support university students in finding and realizing their career calling. In the era of online accommodation reviews, understanding the consumer mind is essential for the hospitality industry. This study seeks to profile consumers based on their reservation decisions made after reviewing online feedback and to explore the complex relationship between consumer perceptions and their decision-making processes. To lay a solid foundation for this research, a thorough bibliometric analysis was conducted to map the existing literature and identify key trends in the field. Data were collected using a non-probability convenience sampling method through an online survey targeting Romanian residents. Performing a hierarchical cluster analysis, followed by a K-means cluster analysis, distinct consumer segments with varying levels of trust and responsiveness were identified. The four primary clusters are Young Risk-Averse Planners, Trust-Oriented Quality Seekers, Skeptical Detail Seekers and Independent Value Seekers. Each segment displayed unique preferences regarding the types of reviews they value and their influence on booking decisions. This study presents a 2D numerical simulation method for predicting the resistance of ships navigating in pack ice. The key contribution of this study lies in the derivation of analytical closed-form solutions for calculating the flexural deformation and stress distribution in an elastic plate using Symplectic Mechanics and Hooke’s laws. These solutions are used to determine the failure mode of ice floes. Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics (LEFMs) and the weight function method are utilized to analyze crack initiation, propagation, and fracture. Ice is broken when a crack propagates to 14.5% of the ice length. The compressive strength of ice and the contact area are used to calculate the ice load. A collision method was developed based on the Sweep and Prune (SAP) and Gilbert–Johnson–Keerthi (GJK) algorithms. A program for predicting the resistance of ships navigating in pack ice was developed based on MATLAB and the aforementioned theories. The navigation resistance of RV Xuelong at different ice concentrations and speeds was simulated and compared with the model test results from an ice tank. The comparison shows that the simulation results are consistent with the test results, with an average error of 9.05%, indicating the effectiveness and reliability of this numerical method. This research proposes a novel modeling method for integrating IMU arrays into multi-sensor kinematic positioning/navigation systems. This method characterizes sensor errors (biases/scale factor errors) for each IMU in an IMU array, leveraging the novel Generic Multisensor Integration Strategy (GMIS) and the framework for comprehensive error analysis in Discrete Kalman filtering developed through the authors’ previous research. This work enables the time-varying estimation of all individual sensor errors for an IMU array, as well as rigorous fault detection and exclusion for outlying measurements from all constituent sensors. This research explores the feasibility of applying Variance Component Estimation (VCE) to IMU array data, using separate variance components to characterize the performance of each IMU’s gyroscopes and accelerometers. This analysis is only made possible by directly modeling IMU inertial measurements under the GMIS. A real land-vehicle kinematic dataset was used to demonstrate the proposed technique. The a posteriori positioning/attitude standard deviations were compared between multi-IMU and single IMU solutions, with the multi-IMU solution providing an average accuracy improvement of ca. 14–16% in the estimated position, 30% in the estimated roll and pitch, and 40% in the estimated heading. The results of this research demonstrate that IMUs in an array do not generally exhibit homogeneous behavior, even when using the same model of tactical-grade MEMS IMU. Furthermore, VCE was used to compare the performance of three IMU sensors, which is not possible under other IMU array data fusion techniques. This research lays the groundwork for the future evaluation of IMU array sensor configurations. Full article
